LAKSA FORTUNE
Last night Daily Telegraph staffers on the balcony of the Aurora Hotel gave a standing ovation to William Lam as he closed his restaurant for the final time.
I love laksa. Especially with gravy.
Only here in Hawaii, we call the dish by it’s full name: Laksa Apso. Great to eat, but a bitch to clean—the fur goes everywhere.Posted by Holden McGroyn on 2007 06 16 at 03:04 AM • permalinkDang! My wife loves Laksa! A pity the free-speech repressing organ of the oppressive Howard Government, the Telegraph, didn’t warn us BEFORE the closure!

My favourite indian place closed after years without telling me, and I was devastated. It was in Glenhuntly, and I’d drive there from all over town for their korma and makhani chicken.
It was to die for.
Then one day I drove across, and it was an indonesian takeaway.
I didn’t cry, but I came close that day.

I used to always buy my petrol and fruit and veg from a place called Sprengers on the Warrego Highway. Fuel was always much cheaper than it was anywhere else, they let me have an account, their fruit and veg was excellent quality, it was great. Chris, the matriarch of the family, gave me a hug when my Dad died, she knew I needed it! They sold up and moved on in December last year. Now the shop is neat and tidy, but the variety and quality of the fruit and veg has declined, petrol is now more expensive than other local service stations (and they have even run out of petrol on occasion), and they are now offering 4c off with a $30 purchase from their shop, excluding fags.
It’s disappointing. You don’t see the queues of cars waiting for petrol that you used to, either. I guess their bottom line is going south. I have heard many people comment about the decline of Sprengers “since the old people sold up”.I hope that a suitable takeaway moves into the Surry Hills area to take over the slack.

When I was living in Sydney for three months, I’d travel an hour out of my way almost every day to eat food from there.
Best of luck to the Lams.
