Police report on a robbery last night in Sydney:

The first man was described as being of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean appearance, about 160cm tall with a skinny build. He was wearing a black coloured jumper and balaclava.

The second man was described as being of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean appearance, about 170cm tall with a chubby build. He was wearing a black coloured balaclava and an orange and red coloured jacket.

SMH report on a robbery last night in Sydney:

The second man was about 170 centimetres tall, chubby and wearing a orange and red coloured jacket and a balaclava.

UPDATE. Reader Duncan locates another case of information deletion ...

Police report on men sought over arson attacks in Revesby:

They are described as being of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean appearance, about 175-180cm tall and all aged in their early 20’s. Three of the men have a thin build while the fourth in described as being large.

SMH report (sourced from AAP) on men sought over arson attacks in Revesby:

The four men are described as about 175-180cm tall, and aged in their early 20s. Three of the men have a thin build, while the fourth is described as large.

Makes you wonder how the SMH would describe Osama bin Laden were he ever to be on the run in Sydney: “The man is described as tall, of thin build, with Robert Fisk attached to his arse.”

UPDATE II. What George W. Bush said:

The recent arrests that our fellow citizens are now learning about are a stark reminder that this nation is at war with Islamic fascists.

And how his words were reported by the BBC:

President George W Bush says a plot to blow up US-bound airliners shows the US is still at war with extremists.

  6. O/T - Just come back from the Mark Steyn talk at the Sydney Conservatorium. Brilliant stuff but expect bad press due to:

Pauline Hanson’s presence and question to Mark about what is happening - it amounted to “Please Explain” - don’t get me wrong it was one of the good ones but you know the media....

Some second or third generation muslim (apparently he has written some articles for the Herald as well? didn’t recognise him) who took offence at what he had to say and stormed out without listening to Mark’s reply to his question - which amounted to something about him rewriting the protocols of Zion or something like that. Told Mark to “drop dead” as well - quite well assimilated that one.

Overall a fantastic evening, very absorbing and seem to last longer than the actual one and half hours. Great speakers, great topics and that Janet Albrechtson is a bit of alright as well :) since I was sitting on the stage I was not suffering from distance distortion either.

  20. It could in fact be aptly described as a man being of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean appearance.

As in, an Islamic or convert to Islam, from any of these countries on the Mediterranean, and Subdivison Seas of the Adriatic, Aegean, Tyrrhenian, Ionian, and Ligurian....Albania, Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Monaco, (hey, if ‘they’ have money, why not, Monaco or the “Rivieras” of France and Italy. I mean Islamists like to have ‘their’ fun, you know) Morocco, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovenia, Spain, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey.

Yep after complete investigation, it just could be a man being of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean appearance.

BUT wait, we can include countries with large populations of Islamic’s or converts to Islam, from damn near, if not everywhere.

Damn, so much for a “complete investigation”. The hell with it.

ABC t.v. however tends to show anglos’ in full- but aboriginal, maori, black African,Pakistani,Middle Eastern people have their faces, arms, hands, legs and feet blotted out.If this phenomenon is occurring it means the person is not “whitey.”
Especially noticeable if you watch both consecutively.

Four cornice says it is because of gangs.Someone must be blameable cause there’s no whites in charge to demonise.
I thought our fed cops went in to help out like in the Solomons and East Timor.OH yeah but then the N.G government refused to protect them with indemnity. So they left.
Therefore Solomons get to feel a little safer in their beds at night and East Timorese too from feds risking their lives unarmed.

And the following hoax story about the AFL footballer seemed to run two or three times longer than the Terry Lane story, even though i would suggest in the current climate, outright bias in a reporter might be even more serious than falling for hoaxes and being too lazy and incompetent to check facts… But that issue wasn’t raised at all, or else I guess you’d have to haul half the ABC reporters up on the issue....

    Racial Descriptions to be Reviewed.
“The use of racial descriptions such as “man of Middle Eastern appearance” will be reviewed by State Governments in the wake of the Cronulla riots.
The unanimous decision yesterday by the ministerial council for immigration and multicultural affairs was strongly supported by ethnic leaders including Ethnic communities Council president Randas Sankaran.
A police spokesman said he was confident that police were not infringing on any racial boundaries.
Mr Sankaran said using descriptions to detail a person’s ethnicity was always discriminatory.Almost always it was only in crimes by visible minorities that police mentioned ethnicity.
“It is not just offensive but IT IS OF NO PRACTICAL USE.” he said.

  40. Unless a crime takes place in, oh, Lithgow or something, if there is no ethnic description mentioned I now automatically assume they are “MEA”.

I found myself doing it by accident, and worried if my instinct was justified. So I would search several articles until one finally mentioned the ethnic description.  The correct hit ratio was probably 8 or 9 out of 10, which is pretty damn good.

Now I don’t bother checking - I just lazily rely on instinct and fall back on the stereotypes.

“Prejudice” literally means “pre-judging” something before you get all the facts, and I’ll accept that as a literal description of what I’m doing in these specific situations.

But I find it amusing to ponder that the SMH’s censorship is probably intended to reduce prejudice, and yet in my case it managed to create prejudice out of thin-air.

To SMH, and all would-be social engineers, who apparently think they get to decide what I need to know - congratulations on another backfiring cock-up.

Perhaps, if you stuck to giving us the facts without any spin, people would actually trust you.

  43. #40:  I think it also serves another couple of purposes.  The MEA tag is no longer applied because the SMH and ilk have been lent on in the nicest possible way and shown the error of such unPC by certain ‘leaders, advocates and academics’.

It also helps to keep the AB demographic lulled into thinking all’s right with the world and current social policies, by skewing information about a side of life they never have to come into contact with.  The SMH editorial staff can then continue to pontificate about the wonder of progressive multiculturalism, and how it’s obstructed by bigots.

Sounds like the gang who hit the pub I was in a few weeks back… They’ve been hitting hotels and TABs all over the city, though to be fair I wasn’t really concentrating on the bloke’s appearance when my wallet was stolen. For some odd reason, I could only focus on the big knife he was waving in my face…

#6 Was also at Steyn last night. The heckling Mossie was Irfan Yusuf, former NSW Liberal party hack. I thought Yusuf’s outburst at Steyn was pretty odd, given that Yusuf himself normally gets stuck into the mad mullahs that give ROP a bad name. He even suggested in a recent blog post of his that muslims near a Sydney synagogue that was attacked should go and visit to see if they were ok. In the past I’ve considered Yusuf to be the kind of integrated 2nd/3rd generation muslim immigrant that Steyn and co have been hoping for. But maybe his outburst proved Steyn’s point that ultimate loyalties to islam override any to the nation.

In any event, he was never going to win that crowd over.

What exactly is this supposed to mean? What sort of ‘provocation’ would justify stabbing someone?

    "Yer mutha wears army boots!"

I hope I am explaining myself here, there is no justifcation for physical assault of anyone at any time, unless it is in actual self defence, and for that you’d probably need to have a knife sticking out of you before you struck your assailant and plead ‘self defence’.
