HIX NIX CHICKS FLIX TIXS

Long memories in Lubbock:

Ticket sales for the Lubbock sneak preview of the Dixie Chicks documentary “Shut up and Sing” are slow. After an hour and half of sales, only 22 of the 300 tickets had been sold.

Maybe nobody heard about it; after all, Lubbock only has one paper and one radio station.

  1. Hey a local Austrayan radio station was GIVING Chix Tix away…
o/t Crikey journo Chris Graham of the National Indigenous Times writes..
“Bronwyn Bishop is a woman of great strength and is known to walk around with a bug up her arse..”????

  6. o/t Former Austalian Defence Chief Peter Cosgrove says pulling Australian troops out of Iraq would return Iraq to the grip of tyranny.
Walking away from Iraq,he says, would hand global terrorism a MAJOR WIN.

  7. 300 tickets are for sale?  From the Dixie hype, you’d think that the population of Lubbock was 97, including livestock.

  8. Yep.  Next time I one of my customers complains about the service I provide, I’m going to wear a t-shirt emblazoned with a phrase showing that I’m arrogantly dismissive of their viewpoint.  Should be great for business.

  10. Those 22 who bought tickets are the bravest of the brave. Imagine walking past the rows of black SUVs parked around the theater, past the sinister looking men loitering around, dressed all in black, wearing reflective sun glasses, and talking furtively into their cuff links.

  11. Ugh.  If only Natalie would take her own advice and just shut up and...actually, “shut up” pretty much covers it.

  12. Poor Natalie.  Her dissent is being crushed and no one cares, least of all those redneck bumpkins in Lubbock.  I wonder how much longer before her sister singers bail?

  13. Natalie is the one who will bail, as she’s the main vocalist.  She’ll try to go pop.

The other two will then tour county fairs with Davy Jones.

And when that work dries up they’ll hit the bottom of the bottom for tour dates, the dreaded Indian casino circuit.

  15. Time for a switch to a more politically sympathetic musical genre. Techno, maybe? Or the insipid, pewling buzzsaw whine they call punk rock these days.

With their behavior over the last few years, I’d say a more appropriate fate might be second billing to a puppet show.

  17. "In this film, which the Dixie Chicks gave us total access to their lives, you’re going to see them with their families. You’re going to see Emily right after she gives birth to her twins. You’re going to see them with their husbands and with their friends backstage."

Well, that would be enough for me right there even without Nat’s big mouth. Why is it these Chix think there are people in significant numbers who are even remotely interested in them, their families, their twins or their husbands much less interested enough to buy movie tickets? Frankly, they’re lucky they found 22 suckers good folks in Lubbock willing to come to their little ego fest.

And when that work dries up they’ll hit the bottom of the bottom for tour dates, the dreaded Indian casino circuit.

Hey, I saw rockin’ Joe Crocker, the best cover R&R artist ever, at the Pala Indian Casino (outside of Oceanside CA) a couple of years ago. The place was packed (2000-seat venue), the crowd raucous (if aged), and the concert was fabulous (Crocker’s voice doesn’t seem to have aged a bit and he’s a great entertainer). I’m betting the Indian casino circuit can be a lucrative little gig. Too good for the likes of the Chix.

  18. Surely the Indian Casino circuit has more...umm...class than the City That Puts Me To Sleep—Branson, MO? Then again, maybe the Chix wouldn’t be much of a hit there among the retirees, Veterans, & other assorted Patriotic Americans spending their children’s inheritances…

  19. If your dissent is crushed and nobody is there to hear it, has your noise been suppressed?

  20. #17 Kyda: I like Joe Cocker, too. Do you know the story behind his tune, “Jack of Diamonds”? There are a couple of lines that I find refreshingly non-leftist - “You can stuff all your Trade Union bulls**t up your Kyber” - but I have no idea what the inspiration was.

  21. Paco, one meeting with a Trade Unionist would have done it.  I dumped a plate of Italian into the lap of one at a dinner some years ago.  Opened his yap and ticked me off in a major way.  Just chit-chat to him, trying to impress me.  Worked, too.  I was impressed (as described above).
