HAIL ZOMBIE!

Zombie is noticed in high places:

Foreign Minister Alexander Downer is standing firm on his comments yesterday slamming the media over its coverage of the Lebanon conflict ...

He accused “some of the world’s most prestigious media outlets” of falling for a hoax in their reporting of an alleged aerial attack on a Lebanese Red Cross ambulance by Israel.

“After closer study of the images of the damage to the ambulance, it is beyond serious dispute that this episode has all the makings of a hoax,” Mr Downer said ...

The references are in relation to the website www.zombietime.com/fraud/ambulance/ that alleges ambulance drivers stage managed the attack.

  1. But . . but . . but, Anomic Lefty says the referenced article isn’t signed, it isn’t even in a newspaper!

Seriously, Donald Rumsfeld has been hammering the press on the same subject .

  2. Sure Tim, go ahead and deny the Reuters-verified truth.

    Meanwhile, the Zionist atrocities continue.

  3. I read on Instapundit that the International Red Cross had yanked the high resolution photograph of the roof of the “bombed” ambulance from its website.

The photo’s undeniably absent, but the byline still claims “A selection of photos from Lebanon, Israel and the Palestinian Territories. The media is welcome to download these high resolution photos for professional use.”

I guess the IRC decided that the continuing availability of this particular photo might be a bit of a tactical blunder. Partisan hacks. Service of humanity, my arse.

  4. Maybe Downer, Rumsfeld, et al are finally catching on to what blogs have to offer (at least the RWDB ones).  They are way overdue at calling out the MSM on this kind of crap.

  6. #2: Oh, sure, Iowahawk, link to yourself in the second comment of a new posting, after I link to you in an earlier posting at about comment #46. No wonder I never get a hat tip.

Brilliant fauxtography, incidentally. It’s got everything: the wedding dress, green helmet guy, the fake dead worker holding a Mickey Mouse doll. And of course, one sweet rod.

  9. Hello, IT? This is Paco. PACO! P-a-c-o. Vice President Paco. Y’know, the one whose office overlooks the White House? Yeah, yeah, yeah, the guy who always forgets to shut his computer down over the weekend when you’re doing the software upgrades, that’s me. Listen, I want you to come up here and show me how to turn a comment on a blog site into a screen saver. Why? Because it’s a hat tip from the Bob Mitchum/James Dean/Marlon Brando of coolest-ever, bad-ass, street-racing bad boy bloggers, that’s why. Just do it. Sigh. P as in pachyderm, A as in anteater . . .

  12. Just a minute, Mr. Downer: Red Cross slams Downer hoax claim

THE International Committee of the Red Cross has rebuked Foreign Minister Alexander Downer for relying on an unverified internet blog to claim an Israeli missile strike on one of its ambulances in southern Lebanon was a hoax.

A spokeswoman for the ICRC in Geneva said yesterday there was no evidence to support Mr Downer’s assertion that the international media had been duped in reporting that Israel had deliberately targeted the ambulance.

Where’s that clue-by-four when you need it.

Great pix, Iowahawk! I can’t stop laughing.

  14. Surely the wailing old mole should be seen howling through the fauxto with the ambulance ‘missile’ hole….I mean for full realistic effect.
And anyway I’ll bet that’s exactly what did happen!
It’s plain that green helmet guy got there first and rescued her.

So the ICRC is essentially taking the Anonymous Lefty approach? Hoo boy. Parody is well and truly doomed, if this keeps up.

  16. Don’t worry folks, ABC watchdog Media Watch will get to the bottom of this.

I know there has been a theory going around places like this that Media Watch wouldn’t know balance if it gnawed off one of its gonads, immersed it in liquid nitrogen and dropped an orange kombi van without wheels upon it from a large crane.

    This assertion I reject.

This coming Monday, Media Watch will lay bare this whole shabby situation using primary sources and once again showing that the MSM reigns supreme as a medium of integrity and immediacy.

Prepare for it now, glue your dials onto the ABC - Monday will be the night that the MSM fights back - leaving more holes in the credibility of the blogosphere than a fleet of Lebanese ambulances.

  17. Perhaps someone has already added ‘reutered’ to ‘fisked, pilgered’ et al.
Mrs Skeeter left school early and has always pronounced it ‘rooter’. This is now the preferred pronunciation in our household.
Paco and 81Alpha: I don’t know whether they were yours to give but thank you, thank you for two new words —‘anomic’ and ‘fauxto’.

  18. You know, it was bad enough when the ICRC put this out in the first place.  Their denial is just beyond the pale, especially when they attempt to do so by a cheap ad hominem attack on Zombie, with nothing else to debunk his fine work.

The whole thing gets more and more pathetic by the day.  How long does the MSM think they can get away with it all before there is a major backlash against them?

  19. I believe Zombie is a She-Zombie, salty.
A US self-promoter is on ABC FranTime, claiming that 95% of martyr bombing were not for ‘religious reasons’, but to regain land from invaders.
Tamil Tigers do have lot -but aren’t they Hindus who believe in re-incarnation?
Fran stolidly refused to ask the obvious:

    1. Doesn’t Jihad imply conquest of whole societies and the denial of democracy or freedom of religion to infidels?  What about Moslem against Moslem in the Iran-Iraq War?

    2. Isn’t territory and religion linked for all Moslems?
    3. Wouldn’t you be a bit biased, since you admit that are against ‘Bush’s foreign policies’ despite being given money from the government for your research?

    AND NOTICEABLY ABSENT
    4. Why are martyr bombers preferred to making peace with Israel and ensuring control over their own territories - as was offered in 2000?
    What about destroying Israel?
I guess that’s just too obvious, Fran..

  20. When I emailed Tim to let him know about this thread yesterday afternoon I said:

“Now Fairfax is not reporting a press conference by Alexander Downer because it buckets them. Downer is questioning the accuracy of Reuters and the ambulance photos hoax and why the media fell for it. He also wonders where the mea culpa is. So are we.”

I stand by that. The Fairfax websites still have not even mentioned the Downer statement. This is censorship by omission in anybody’s language and is only to be expected from such a degraded organisation.

  26. I notice in the article that it is still presented as a fact that the ambulance was struck and that someone lost a leg, etc. They must have worn out their “allegedly” key during the recent Hizbollah war.

The same issue of the Australian has an article headlined “Crowd Boos UN Chief” (or similar) which seems to be referring to the event whose stage management was thoroughly described in a blog yesterday. And there was also an article about the Plame (yawn) game that said that Bush’s claims about Iraq seeking Uranium in Africa had been ‘discredited’ by Wilson’s report to the CIA.

Don’t reporters or editors follow the news that they’re reporting on at all?

  28. Note also: Alex Downer is reading conservative blogs as a matter of course and in real time.  Zombie only posted in the past 48 hours, yet here is Downer quoting the expose the next day.

Interesting development given that Nick Minchin admitted, the Steyn dinner in Canberra, that he also hit the conservative blogs.

Any wonder, then, the Government of John Howard is so strong in its view about the War on Islamofascism Terror and othe Big Issues?

  30. I gotta hand it to Downer, he certainly has landed on his feet in the role of Foreign Minister.  He was a dud as an Opposition Leader 12 years ago, even he openly admits it now.  In fact, when Australia was enduring Mark Latham as Opposition Leader, Downer took great pleasure ridiculing Latham as a dud, and gleefully pointing out that “I know what a dud opposition leader looks like when I see one, after all I was one myself!” or words to that effect.

I always respect people who are capable of self-depracating humour.
