HAIL TO THE BUS DRIVER, BUS DRIVER MAN
The Australian Prime Minister isn’t backing down:
John Howard has declared that the terrorist bombings in London will not change Australia’s stance on sending more troops to Afghanistan, its commitment to Iraq or his plans to travel to Britain to meet Tony Blair.
Labor’s Kim Beazley is similarly defiant:
Federal Opposition leader Kim Beazley today condemned the London bombings as cowardly, labelling the perpetrators “sub-human filth”, who must be “captured and eliminated”.
But the best recent line comes from George Psaradakis, driver of the London bus blown apart by a bomb:
“We are going to continue our normal lives. We are not going to be intimidated.”
As Alan R.M. Jones writes: “Just fifteen words, from a bus driver, says it better than anyone; certainly better than Alan Ramsey’s 1,370 words. Actually, after removing 947 quoted words, Ramsay wrote just 423. He must have one hell of a Rehame bill.”
“Is sub-human filth worse than arseholes?”
Oh, a lot worse. Andrew Jaspan, that sensitive guardian of good taste, will be on to Mr Beazley.
Interesting that Mr Beazley is now in favour of capital punishment. That’s what I presume he means by ‘eliminated’.
