POLEY BEARS KEEP ON TRUCKIN’

Warmening hysteric Tim Flannery is prone to error on the subject of polar bears, as Canadian polar bear expert Dr. Mitchell Taylor points out:

Tim Flannery is one of Australia’s best-known scientists and authors. That doesn’t mean what he says is correct or accurate. That was clearly demonstrated when he recently ventured into the subject of climate change and polar bears. Climate change is threatening to drive polar bears into extinction within 25 years, according to Flannery. That is a startling conclusion and certainly is a surprising revelation to the polar bear researchers who work here and to the people who live here. We really had no idea.

Do read on. This item dates back several months; thanks to reader Tim S. for finding it.

  1. How could Tim Flannery attain fame and fortune if he were not hysterical?  The envirotards wouldn’t listen to him otherwise.

  2. Oh, that explains it. It’s a link to Toronto’s left-liberal Star, but it’s a letter-to-the-editor contradicting one of the Star‘s stories (and from a source that they couldn’t dismiss) and not an original, environmental good-news story from them.

Good find, Tim S. and Tim B. [And for future readers, the Star only keeps links alive for two weeks before archiving them; so read it while you can.]

It’s perhaps not that they wouldn’t listen to him, but he’d definitely be drowned out by all the other eco-shriekers.

  4. Other than those minor errors - and please, let’s no quibble over this minutiae, there’s a world to save - Mr. Flannery stands by his remarks.

  5. All in all, Tim Flannery is probably just ahead of the news cycle.

  6. Oh, thanks Doc Taylor. I’ve been working around the clock with agents such as Flannery to create a panic over polar bear extinction in order to drive up the price of my polar bear rug inventory, and now you come along and gum up the works. I understand that the price of skins on the Candian exchange has already dropped 15%. Ah, well; so much for that new library I was going to build for the Polar Almshouse for Cute Orphans.

  8. Well, obviously Mr. Flannery is talking about Australian polar bears, pfft, anyone can see that.

  9. This article left me completely unconcerned.  Who cares about polar bears?  They are nothing but racists.  Have you ever seen a polar bear hanging out with a black or brown bear?  No, you haven’t.

I say ‘melt their homes’.  It serves ‘em right.

Exactly and those bears would be these no doubt.

    a) knows dick-all about Canada, according to his Bio,  and

b)“has discovered and named more than thirty new species of mammals “

So, I guess global warming is good for species multiplication.

  12. #2 To amplify on andycanucks’s reference to the “Star”. It is a newspaper published only in Toronto, Canada’s largest city, which thinks itself the centre of the universe.

It is Canada’s largest circulation newspaper and supports the Liberal party and all lefty causes. It is otherwise known as the Red Star by the more erudite, informed and conservative amongst us. Fortunately, it is difficult to purchase outside of the Great Canadian Navel.

  16. Can anyone enlighten me what islands off New Zealand have disappeared due to Gorebull Warning.Gorebull says in his movie that this has happened making all the inhabitants emigrate to N.Z.Does anyone know anything about this?

  17. Total crap. But then again it is ‘Gore speak’. So it won’t belong before some elements of the MSM pick this one and run with it. If anybody has left these islands, it would for economic reasons, not for fairy tales.

Answer: none.  The hectoring has been alternatively between Tuvalu or Kiribati - take your pick.  This page over at RWDB J.F. Beck puts it all into perspective but as BJM notes, these happen to be the facts and they’re not allowed to get in the way of a ‘good’ story.
