GOOD TO BE PUNISHED

The Guardian is pretending to be a serious newspaper again. Peter Briffa slaps ‘em down (or, considering Peter’s suggestion, up.)

UPDATE. David Thompson on the Guardian’s indulgent guilt.

  1. The Axis of Hand-Wringing does have a certain wring to it.

  2. #1: That is great coinage.

It’s pretty obvious that leftists have a cultural death wish, but before they do finally succeed in garroting the civilization they inherited with the laces from their ugly shoes, it would be interesting to have some idea as to what they’re going to replace this world-not-of-their-own-making with. I suspect the brutish fellows who lurk in the corners of our society (and that actually overrun large parts of the world outside of our society) would probably wind up depriving all these parlor pinkos of the opportunity for remaking civilization from the dirt-floor up.

  3. my favourite line from Phantom Guilt Syndrome

After all, rending one’s garments and saying, very loudly, “it’s all my fault” is only a notch and a half away from saying “it’s all about me.”

must point that out to certain relatives

  4. "The Guardian is pretending to be a serious newspaper again.”

The Guardian is a practitioner of journalism like the Three Stooges were practioners of Socratic Dialogue.

  5. Good thing I’m on spring break this week.  This hysterical giggling would be difficult to explain to my co-workers.

    Mr Eugenides, that is genius.

  7. "Axis of Hand-Wringing”??
Should it be “Axes for Hand-Wringing”: chop, chop; no hands, no wringing?

    My bad 8^0

    Cheers

  8. In a cage match (or any minor confrontation) the Axis of Hand Wringers would lose, hands down, to the Allies of Neck Wringers.  Pussies.

  9. This is funny: Guardian readers voiced their own ecstasy of indignation:
Air travel is disgusting both in the air and on the ground.
NOBODY who flies casually can call themselves ethical.

    1. Lefties don’t get out of their ivory towers much,
    2. Lefties are insanely scared of the Real World out there,
    3. Lefties are all about to morph into Luddites, and look what happened to them.

  10. I’ll take the Guardian seriously only if John Pilger is sacked.
Pilger tried to start his own radical red London paper, quickly fell in a heap with others, losing millions, - and the Guardian then took him back in.  Enough said.

  11. Another worthy quote from Phantom Guilt Syndrome:

I was once asked why I didn’t have more empathy with the political left. “I don’t dislike myself enough,” I replied...
