GO AWAY FROM THE BEACH
Sydney residents are directed to avoid water and sand lest they be caught up in the troubles:
The Premier, Morris Iemma, has warned the public to stay clear of the beach this weekend, amid “credible threats” of large-scale riots.
As police prepared to mount their biggest operation since the Olympics to end this week’s outbreak of racial violence, Mr Iemma yesterday asked Sydneysiders not to visit beaches in eastern suburbs, Cronulla, the Central Coast, Newcastle and Wollongong.
“The police do advise that there are credible threats of large numbers of people wishing to congregate at a range of beachside locations. Based on the credibility of those threats, travel to those areas should be avoided and residents living within the areas ought not to go to those beachside locations,” he said.
Police set up roadblocks last night:
“These are extraordinary measures for extraordinary times,” [Police Commissioner Ken] Moroney said.
Those who ignore the advice will have their cars searched at checkpoints and will be turned away by police, unless they have a valid reason for going into the areas.
Difficult to know what a “valid reason” might be. Meanwhile, ill-tempered text messages are a-flyin’:
One message, passed to the New Zealand Herald by a reader, urges:“They’ve tortured us around the world ... n humiliated us but its not gona happen anymore! Lebanese unite as 1 on the 18-12-05 prepare for war send this msg 2 every arab u know.”
A total of 63 people have been arrested since the troubles began, including 19 overnight:
Police have also seized a vehicle at Matraville, in Sydney’s south, the first car taken under the new powers given to police.
Inside they found swords and a dagger.
Damn musketeers.
UPDATE. Michael Duffy on Australian racism:
The sad truth for middle-class moralisers is that most Australians are unhelpfully non-racist. The book How Australia Compares, by Rodney Tiffen and Ross Gittins, includes the result of a 1990s survey on the sorts of people who were not desired as neighbours. Some of the respondent percentages were: drug addicts 74, heavy drinkers 60, people with a criminal record 45, emotionally unstable 38, and immigrants and people from a different race 5. Only 5 per cent! And that was the lowest in the list of countries surveyed: Austria and Belgium 20 per cent, Japan 17, France, Italy and Germany 13.
UPDATE II. A radio announcer apologises to Lebanese Australians.
UPDATE III. Observe Cronulla’s forbidden waves via surfcam.

Time to ban marriages between cousins?.. the Pakistani community accounted for 30 per cent of all births with recessive disorders, despite representing 3.4 per cent of the birth rate nationwide. It is estimated that more than 55 per cent of British Pakistanis are married to first cousins, resulting in an increasing rate of genetic defects and high rates of infant mortality. The likelihood of unrelated couples having the same variant genes that cause recessive disorders are estimated to be 100-1.
The “troubles” would end if surfing was outlawed.
Posted by Mystery Meat on 2005 12 16 at 08:22 PM • permalinkThis is really starting to annoy me. I’m going to be in Bondi next week, if i cant enjoy the very places I came to see because the Government is so inept at maintaining a basic standard of safety, then I’m going to be ropable.
The SMH is no better, it seems that indeterminate groups are causing all of this trouble, pull the other one, call a spade a spade eh?
Good things the Lebs don’t know about these Surfie Harlots.
Newcastle? There are almost no Lebanese in Newcastle. They are going waste all that petrol driving up the coast from western Sydney?
Newcastle beaches get their share of bogans on weekends. They mostly travel down from the Hunter Valley. The surfies seem too entranced by the waves to take much notice of anything else. Will they form a mob? Hope not. Why would they?
The only violent mobs I have ever seen in Newcastle have been the usual leftist protesters/demonstrators attacking cops and property.
Been a sad week in Australia. I’m left with the image of that poor Aussie-Lebbo kid thinking he could reason with the beach trash at Cronulla. He gave them too much credit. They pounded him. A good Anglo Aussie helped rescue him. “Nothing a mob does in clean” said Australian poet Les Murray. So true.
Graboy, you don’t know how a culture war is fought. It’s a war fought exclusively with weapons the other side gives you. In America Pat Buchanan is a staunch cultural warrior- for the Left. If the lefties want a moronic quote from a conservative about how lesbians cause tidal waves, guess who’s the go-to guy?
Moore is likewise effective, for us. A fat, disgusting, lying jerk who defames his own country, cheers on it’s enemies and insists on making himself a national spectacle as he does so. Long may his big mouth reign.
We’re winning this war right from the get go, because the islamist trash are too stupid to fight smart. The rioting Anglo youth on TV were a big hit to our side, handing ammo to our enemies on the left at the SMH. That has now been neutralized by the apologies and outreach efforts. Too dumb to realize how this game is played, islamic ‘community leaders’ are taking this opportunity to smugly accept our apologies as a prelude to a lengthy lecture on how we can do better, delivering said lecture about their victimhood in the company of other non-muslim religious leaders from the front of a burned out church.
Meanwhile our moron police hierarchy responds to provocation from lebanese gangs by banning Australians from going to the beach and all throughout the state, thousands of citizens like me who have been on the receiving end of threats, harassment and violence from muslim thugs have to sit still and be informed condescendingly by leftist editorial writers and academics that we are just making it up because we are racists who ought to be as ashamed to be Autralian as they proudly are.
The anger grows
I don’t understand the continuing use of the term “race riots”. Is race really the “root cause”?
If the Lebanese are motivated by Islam and a hatred for giour (my assumption), shouldn’t a different term be used? One that denotes a religous basis?
How ‘bout “religous riots”?
Or, maybe “ecclesiastical riots”?I know! “jihad warmups”
How about this. same article by Paul Sheehan. The Age’s banner:
There are special factors in Sydney that many argue made this week’s clashes inevitable. Paul Sheahan outlines how some believe that young Lebanese men have been radicalised and an inept political and legal class let it happen.
The SMH’s:
Understanding traditional social structures of the Lebanese would go a long way toward avoiding the racial clashes seen at Cronulla this week, writes Paul Sheehan.
Thats quite a different slant. I wonder why….. (arseholes)

The ignorance in that SMH article is so blatant I would have been too embarrassed to sign off on it were I the editor. Imagine the Lebanonese swagging about pouting smartly whilst beating whites up and smashing shops and cars because {{{gasp}}} “...they don’t understand our fookin’ traditional social strooctures, see? Fookin’ arseholes. Let’s bash ‘em soorfin’ bricks, wha’?”
I wonder how long Premier Iemma can sustain the lockdown of NSW beaches. It might happen this weekend but, given the tradition of Christmas on the beach of many Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong families, I can’t see how the Police could sustain the lockdown over next weekend and the Boxing Day holiday without risking major civil disturbances from large numbers of people who have no interest in the issues of last weekend’s riots but who do have an interest in maintaining their long-held family traditions. If the Police try to keep them off the beaches it could get very ugly indeed.
I don’t think that the Premier has thought this through at all.
Exactly how would ‘understanding traditional social structures of the Lebenese’ solve anything? In fact, this is a prime piece of gobbeldygook. Lets ‘understand’ those who hate us. If you are attacked by a gang of violent Lebs, try to ‘understand’ why they’re doing it. Think it through while youre waiting for the ambulance. Tell them that you ‘understand’ the pressures they are under that prevent them from acting like civilised human beings. Then forgive them. Its Christmas, after all.
Then I suggest we should take down the Australian flag, it presents too much of a provocation to those who were taken in by Australia when they had nowhere else to go. It even presumes that they should feel grateful in some way that they are here in Australia instead of having their heads shot off in the ME. This will never do. Obviously we havent made them feel welcome enough, so lets all do our part in 2006.
A mass conversion to Islam may help.
Then I suggest we should take down the Australian flag…
Don’t laugh, Dee. Remember this?
Race fears spark St. George ban.
Chris Doyle, director of the Council for the Advancement of Arab-British Understanding, said Tuesday the red cross was an insensitive reminder of the Crusades.
“A lot of Muslims and Arabs view the Crusades as a bloody episode in our history,” he told CNN. “They see those campaigns as Christendom launching a brutal holy war against Islam.
“Muslim or Arab prisoners could take umbrage if staff wore a red cross badge. It’s also got associations with the far-right. Prison officers should be seen to be neutral.”
Doyle added that it was now time for England to find a new flag and a patron saint who is “not associated with our bloody past and one we can all identify with.”
#4: Melanie makes a great point. Apparently, if Islamic men are inflamed with anger or lust, then the fault lies with the source of the provocation, not with the Muslim’s intolerance and lack of self-control. So, take down the banner of St. George, cancel Christmas festivities and clothe women in pup tents - in what used to pass for Christendom, for cryin’ out loud!
#21 A mass conversion to Islam may help.
You first, dee.
The question is: which sect?
Maybe it doesn’t matter…they all get along so well, ya know.
I’m thinking the Nizari. Seems like a nice bunch of fellows.
Michael Kennedy’s ‘analysis’ in Sheehan’s SMH article is rather confused. On one hand he is saying that we (the police and politicians) should understand the violent, patriarchal social structures of peasant Lebanese families in order to formulate an effective law and order strategy to combat Lebanese organised crime in NSW. How the hell do you do that in any practical sense?
It’s obvious Dr Kennedy doesn’t know either, because he then goes on to support Tim Priest’s (and the rest of the rank and file within the cops) view that the NSW Police Service has been turned into a sad, pathetic sick joke ever since the Wood Royal Commission.
The only time-tested practical way to beat violence from organised crime, or violence from any petty crims, be they Anglo, Arab, Asian or whatever, is for the police to go in hard, and be backed up by the courts, the police hierarchy, the politicians and the general public. Zero Tolerance means fuck all if this doesn’t happen.
People just have to realise, and come to terms with the fact, that policing is an inherently violent, brutal, ugly business. It is the same the world over and has ever been thus. It’s not about helping little old ladies across the street and getting cats out of trees. It’s about taking shitbags head-on. And in doing so, every now and then you have to have some hard-arsed coppers prepared to go the extra distance. By this I mean that every police force across the world needs a Roger Rogerson from time to time. (It strikes me as odd that people tend to cheer the tough cops who use ‘slightly unorthodox’ methods only in movies and on TV, but not in real life).
I’m certainly not advocating a return to the ‘bad old days’ of rampant police corruption. All I am saying is that obsessing about eliminating corruption is counter-productive. People have turn learn to live with a certain amount of it. Show me a clean police force anywhere on the planet, and I’ll show you an impotent one.
The current NSW Police Farce is a classic example.
the issue is not race, its culture – and lack of assimilation. Our nation is infested with unassimilated leftists and progressives clinging to an outmoded and untenable culture. No wonder they identify with these lebmothugs, no wonder they want us to abandon or compromise our values and traditions at the every turn. The same vermin who protest against us defending our values against terrorists, whether we fight them in Afghanistan, iraq or elsewhere, oppose any action to preserve of our values at home.
#24: Sounds good. I always order Sufis and Wahhabis when I dine Japanese.
#25: Yeah Roger Rogerson may have been a naughty boy on occasion by trousering a little cash (I guess it’s worse than a waiter taking tips) but he was very good at dispatching really, really bad people. If you weren’t a serious crim, you wouldn’t be afraid of Roger.
I just love watching all the sociologists (professional and amatuer) over analysing the piss out of a really simple thing.
A bunch of surfies, left to the mercy of Lebanese gangs for years by incompetent Govt, insane courts and unsupported/illtrained and poorly led police, finally cracked and lashed out at the savages who were abusing them.
Religion, race, feeling left out - none had a thing to do with it, basically a bunch of thugs found that the police were not policing and exploited it.
Posted by Harry Buttle on 2005 12 17 at 04:45 AM • permalink#29, and the flip side of that - which the sociologists will not touch with a barge pole - is the behaviour of the muslim gangs which see Sydney and surrounds as a great opportunity for their kind of fun, knowing as they most assuredly do, that the Premier is beholdent to the muslim vote in his own electorate, and so will be desperate to continue with the softly-softly tactic that both these gangs and the real police hold in complete contempt. (gasp for air)
a:Morris lemming is member for lakemba area.
b:Lakemba area residents responsible for years of thuggery and violence all over the city. With impunity.
c:“locals” of one area react innapropiately to years of thuggry
d: police go in hard, order is restored among “locals” quickly
e: Nights of shootings, arson, vehicle damage, and thuggery commence. Convoy of cars involved organise and disperse from a cetain mosque.
f: Police????
g: Premier reacts by closing beach involved and flooding area with police.
Anyone want to hlp me with what is wrong with this picture?Posted by thefrollickingmole on 2005 12 17 at 05:57 AM • permalinkWhat is really surprising is how Iemma seems to think if we all just think “Christmas spirit and good will to all people..” everything will be hunky dory.
How does this tally up with the authorities warning people of possible attacks at Christmas because it is our religious holiday (well one of them).Exactly how would ‘understanding traditional social structures of the Lebenese’ solve anything?
Well, if you understood their traditional social structure, then you’d know your place (as a non-Muslim) at their feet.
