GLOBAL SPORTY JOY

Happy sports news #1: Nine wickets (at an average of less than 10) to Stuart Clark (on debut at 30) guide Australia to victory in the First Test against South Africa.

Happy sports news #2: Williams, the most English of Formula One teams, claims the second row of the grid for today’s Malaysian Grand Prix using Cosworth engines developed at a fraction of the cost of their Ferrari/BMW/Toyota/Honda/Mercedes rivals. Nico Rosberg, in only his second GP, qualified a brilliant third; Australian Mark Webber will start fourth.

Happy sports news #3: Adelaide lost the NAB Cup! Full report demanded from Scott Wickstein.

  1. Since you posted this, we’ve lost three quick wickets. Top shelf Mozz!

  2. Tim Blair, the Murray Walker of cricket?

  3. I was too busy watching the cricket to watch a pre-season warm up game. Thanks to the magic of Fox Footy Channel, I’ll watch it tomorrow or Monday or something. :P

The main thing is of course that we beat Collingwood in round 1.

  4. Scott,

You know that never happened. In fact, Adelaide has never beaten Collingwood. Legitimately.

  5. Yes that was a very illegitimate 110 point shellacking we gave you in round 21 last year!

  6. I do not recall the contest to which you refer.

  8. Incorrect, Casanova. Collingwood has not lost a game by fair means since its formation. This is a well known fact.

  9. My son and I had the pleasure of chatting to Stuart Clark in between his fine-leg duties at the WACA recently (we were the only spectators in cooee).  A genuinely nice bloke.  With that smooth, economical run-up, he’s got plenty of years left too.

  11. Tim Blair — Are there two gigantic crossed sabers in front of the Collingwood pitch?  I’m just askin’...

Cultural/sporting note.  Cricket has pitches (the 22’ strip where the ball is bowled down - the arena is called a cricket ground, as in Melbourne Cricket Ground).  Footy also has a ‘ground’, not a pitch.

The exception happens to be Collingwood, which doesn’t so much have a footy ground as a shrine.

And we woz robbed in the Baseball Classic, and don’t you deny it.

  13. I hope Leigh “Will Never See Success at Geelong” Colbert was watching last night, on the ground where he was robbed of that mark. (Apparently victory doesn’t cure bitterness, or not for long.)

  14. Oh pitch, ground whatever.  Who watches croquet anyway.  Just kidding.  Incoming!

If Tim B wants to woof at any team for cost v result go after Toyota.  Could have taken two 4Runners off the lot and saved themselves all thoses bucks.

Ferrari would be better if they were fielding two cars this season.  Massa will be in Pout of his league all year.

Wash your mouth out, Tim.  Geelong had all the luck in the world, including a near 9 pointer bouncing off the post back into play.
I’ll stop reading you if you go on like this.

  16. Tim has many fine qualities, but his choice of football team isn’t one of them.

No one is perfect, after all.

  17. Not so good for the Cosgrove team. Rosbergs engine blew up and Webber had a hydraulics problem.

  18. Not quite on point but isn’t New Zealand a member of the Commonwealth?  How come they’re not competing in the Games?
