  1. Now if they can just get rid of the word “law” their long journey back towards honesty will be complete…

  2. Should be a short course, they seem to have no principles that I can see.

  3. Principles?

    They have principles?

(#2, yeah this was my first thought… then I saw yours.)

  4. Except it seems that fundamentalism seems to be one of the key principles.

  9. Details on the course here.

I assume participants can behead Arts Students for extra credit.

Jokes aside, I am wondering why exactly Sharia law is being taught at an Australian University. I can only hope it is to create “home grown” Sharia experts such that the local Muslim communities don’t need to import them from the Middle East. However, excuse my cynicism… On history, I’d be very surprised if it were a “critical analysis” of any part of Islamic law, knowing where critics have ended up in the past .

So how many credit points does a student get for a beheading anyway?

  10. Dan it’s not the points, it’s the virgins that really count.

I doubt you’ll be finding many of those at university…

That’s one way to turn Arts students into productive members of society.

  14. From the course objectives:

“A candidate who has successfully completed the subject should:

      * Demonstrate a firm grasp of the history and development of Islam and Islamic law (sya’riah)”

Yeah & I know what type of islamophobic zero you’d get for a mark if you really did demonstrate a firm grasp of the history of islam to Abdullah. Plus you’d really have to watch it if any of your fellow students asked you if you wanted to get stoned after class.

    Modern reforms.

So, instead of hoisting young girls by the neck on a crane they’ll now build gallows?

It would be interesting to read more about this course. How they cover the many sinful things that in secular society are quite legal.

Although the segment on sexual assault and wife beating are surely pretty short. “It’s her fault” being the legal angle.

  21. OT: My TV says the funniest things. Just saw an ad for a show debating nucular power.

“Greens are right to be opposed to nucular power, because we know nucular power plants are a terrorist target.”

Hmmm… well, if the Greens stopped supporting terrorists and started supporting the actions to stop terrorism, I’d think that the view is a little more substantiated.

  22. I had a very reasoned debating point previewed for this post, but then decided “what’s the fucking point?”

These mongrels are infiltrating and subverting everywhere and anywhere they can get a look in.

Particularly in Victoria’s Spencer St Soviet, where Blair’s Law seems to be the Attorney General’s first guiding principle.

  30. Why are Australian universities offering causes in Shari’a law?  Why do people need to study Islamic law in Australia? Perhaps it’s like the NAB Islamic banking scholarship - they anticipate the future.
