FRANCHISE GROWS

The Tim Blair Building in New South Wales is now joined by Tim Blair Field in New Hampshire.

(Actually, it’s a typo; the real name is Tom Blair Field. Still, this is the nicest honour-in-error since Yahoo News briefly appointed me Prime Minister of Britain.)

  1. You mean you weren’t Prime Minister of Britain?  What a relief.

I have just arranged for the first hurricane of the North Atlantic season to be named in her honor.

  4. Don’t know if I would want to be PM of Great Britain.  I think I would invoke the Norman Mailer convention on that one.

Mailer once ran for Mayor of New York City.  One wag asked him what his first official act would be.  His response—demand a recount.

  12. Ha ha, the Blair influence grows.  Soon there will be giant portraits of him on the sides of tall buildings.  Every schoolroom will have his picture on the wall, smiling down at all the little RWDBs-in-training.  As our Dark Lord Rove drifts farther back into the shadows, Tim Blair will become the new Scourge of the Nutroots!  Victory will be complete!

Or he’ll just go out to road-test another dysfunctional vehicle.  Either way, it’s all good.

  21. #4: Mailer once ran for Mayor of New York City.  One wag asked him what his first official act would be.  His response—demand a recount.

Actually, it was William F. Buckley, in 1965.  He wrote a book about this experience entitled “The Unmaking of A Mayor.”

  22. Bruce.

Mailer did run for mayor of NYC in 1969.

I seem to remember that quote being attributed to him.  If it was, in fact, Buckley then I will invoke the Buckley convention regarding PM of Britain.  It does sound like both of them.  There was another great quote by Buckley regarding trials.  Something about taking a page out of the NYC phone directory and getting a better trial.

Keyboards aren’t that expensive. Well unless the keyboard is attached to say, a laptop.

You’re lucky that you have the ability to direct (meaning aim) fire, unlike the poor bastard that sneezes.
