FOX TO BLAME FOR LIBERAL MEDIA
Back in January, the New Yorker’s Ken Auletta blamed Fox News for perceptions of bias across all media:
Then you’ve got Fox News, which is admittedly more partisan or perceived as more partisan, and so people then start to say, hey, wait a second, they’re all partisan.
Now the Washington Post’s William Raspberry fears that Fox “threatens to destroy public confidence in all news”:
Why would I consider Fox such a generalized threat? Because I think the plan is not so much to convince the public that its particular view is correct but rather to sell the notion that what FNC presents is just another set of biases, no worse (and for some, a good deal better) than the biases that routinely drive the presentation of the news on ABC, CBS or NBC—and, by extension, the major newspapers ...
This is huge. As a friend remarked recently, time was when if you found it in the New York Times, that settled the bar bet and the other guy paid off. But if the Times and The Post or any other mainstream news outlet—including the major networks—come to be seen as the left-of-center counterparts of Fox News Channel, why would anyone accept them as authoritative sources of truth?
Why should anyone accept the Times or the Post or the major networks as authoritative sources of truth? It’s not as if they are—and it’s got nothing to do with Fox.

Rob:
That’s pretty close. I know that I can’t trust the BBC to give me reliable news on the Middle East, Iraq, Global warming or anything to do with the US. This pretty much covers the obsessions of British journalists. On other topics, like China and India and technology and so on, the BBC is still excellent.
This isn’t huge, this is stupid. I am getting more and more confused by these people. Everyday confirms the belief that being lefty means mental illness.

Posted by William Young on 2005 04 19 at 08:05 AM • permalinkIt goes like this:
FOX News appears, the left get hysterical and start howling in their cages, people talk about FOX’s bias, they start talking about other media bias, one of two things then happen
They realize they aren’t the only ones who think the mainstream media is full of crap and therefore not crazy; or it dawns on them the mainstream is full of crap as they’re struck by a revalation.
At this point the left realize what’s happened, in an act of desperation, they blame FOX.
Two left cliches in one event, 1. it’s always the fault of the right, 2. the left will never tire of not only shooting themselves in the foot, but the leg, groin, chest and sometimes even head.
It’s sad and kinda funny to watch, one wonders if this was the plan all along (considering how damn obvious FOX makes their bias, combined with their slogan it’s like catnip).
If so, Rupert, you magnificent bastard.

Two words: Walter Duranty.
Raspberry, I fart in your general direction.

Tim… You mean, if Fox had only gone off the air, Dan Rather would have quit much sooner? Seymour Hirsh would have hired a fact-checker? Brinkley would have remembered he used to be an historian and fact-checked Kerry’s book? Al Franken would still be a two-bit dope dealer?

Yes, this has nothing to do with thing like “fake but accurate” memos, Jayson making stuff up out of whole cloth, partisan attacks on the President that would make the North Korean news agency blush.
Nope, just the eeeee-vil mind control satallites of Fox…
