FOR THOSE EAGER TO EXPRESS THEIR PREJUDICES

Hate speech at the ABC!

Media Watch used to get all worked up about this sort of thing. Not any more ...

UPDATE. Credit where it’s due; just as the program did last year, Media Watch slaps Fairfax over dodgy Earth Hour coverage.

  1. I suspect Media Watch sees nothing wrong with that: it’s just another version of “Death to America!”, a time-honored symbol of “protest” recognized world-wide…

Wonder if the ABC will print it.

  5. I waded into that morass of commenters and quickly got out.  So that’s where my eight cents per day goes.  That stuff is still clinging to my shoes, I will need new ones.

  6. “Armchair commentators, most of whom had only seen Iraq through the eyes of American soldiers, pontificated about the country’s future and Iran’s allegedly malign influence.”

As opposed to armchair commentators who have only seen Iraq through the eyes of apologists for Islamofascism, and pontificate endlessly about the American killing machine.

Ant, incidentally, seems to be going for the “gritty realism” look, judging by the picture. He puts me in mind of one of those Farm Security Administration photos from the Great Depression - perhaps a hobo waiting to jump a freight train. Looks like he’s got a piece of beef jerky stowed in his ear for the trip.

  7. I’m just sad only 4000 Yanks have been killed.

I was hoping for about 300 million of the so and so’s.

Ummmm….there’s not quite that many of us…yet….

  8. My response to this cretin: How dare you wish for the deaths of 300 people regardless of nationality! You are a spineless hypocrite who is benefiting from the freedoms you enjoy that are given by soldiers, not by a peace activist. Perhaps you would prefer the oppression that was ended by a coalition that proudly included Australian troops. Shame on you and your employer.

  9. #4: Oh, I hope so, Richard. That way, I can laugh out loud all over again.

I’m having a little trouble pulling up Currency Lad at the moment, but commenter Amos at C.L. makes a very astute observation: the idiot who has no trouble wishing death on 300 million people is finicky about using the word “bastards” or something similar to describe them all, settling for the euphemistic “so and so’s”. Genocidal dreams are bad enough, but harnessed to a school-marmish fastidiousness, it’s the sort of thing that makes one one want to apply the extra-large clue bat.

If you count the illegal immigrants undocumented migrant workers, yeah, there are that many.

I suspect he phrased it that way because wishing the death of 300 million Americans appears to be acceptable language for the ABC, but not the use of the term “bastard”, which would be highly offensive to members of single-parent households.

  13. #11 Spiny,

I didn’t count them because they’re not Americans, therefore deserving of the lefts pity.  I’m sure the commenter didn’t mean innocent Illegal Immigrants…...

  14. I’m not afraid of the word bastard.  Antony Lowenstink is one, ugly, shriveled, bigoted little bastard who should have been drowned at birth.  How’s that for prejudice, Tony?

  15. Wow. Just wow.

I’d seen comments by this guy called “Mulga Mumblebrain” at The Australian’s blog. I can only imagine the stuff of his they didn’t print, as the ABC let it all run and it stinks.

    This guy is unbelievable:

Funnytom, I’m with ex-Italian President Cossiga who recently told the Italian media that Mossad and the CIA were behind 9/11, and everyone in European intelligence knows it. If you wish to continue believing in faery stories, either through excess credulousness, or out of a desire to join up in the ‘Clash of Civilizations’, that’s your choice.

Amazingly, he hates being called an antisemite.

    Even the black ones? GASP!

If he’d made a comment like that about anyone else the ABC would have been shrieking with outrage.

  19. I sent that thread to the ABC mediawatch about 4-5 days ago, no reply at all. Also hit the “report to admin” button on the website about 5-6 days ago.

Nothing appears to have happened so one can only assume they endorse the comments.
