FLIPSIE CHICK
The ABC’s Scott Bevan interviews Dixie Chicks spokespod Natalie Maines, currently touring Australia:
SCOTT BEVAN: From a London stage in 2003, just before the US invaded Iraq, Texan born Natalie Maines told the audience, “Just so you know, we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas” ... Before you said that, had you discussed it, planned it, had you considered it, the words and the ramifications?
NATALIE MAINES: No, no. I think if I had considered the words, they would have been better ...
SCOTT BEVAN: Country music radio stations boycotted the Dixie Chicks’ songs. Cheers turned to jeers and the trio received even death threats in the mail ...
NATALIE MAINES: I would never take it back, but it wasn’t thought out and I never in a million years and I’m very glad I never would have thought any of those things would happen. Those things don’t cross my mind.
It didn’t cross Bevan’s mind to check the history of this dopey Dixie diss, which generated a rapid apology:
Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines was singing a new tune late Friday, this time in the form of an apology to President Bush for saying she was ashamed that he was from Texas.
"As a concerned American citizen, I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful. I feel that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect,” Maines said in her latest statement.
So much for “never taking it back”. Maines also took advantage of an AAP reporter’s short memory:
The outspoken country music singer is sticking to her comments that she’s ashamed Bush was from her home state of Texas.
"I am disgusted with him (Bush) and his people,” Maines told AAP in Sydney ...
"We used free speech ... we are very proud of our controversy,” said Maines.

They sound more intelligent talking about politics than anything else. They’re sticking to what they know best.

Imus had been taking razzing for liking their stuff but turned on them when they started talking to interviewers.
Tell you what, Natalie, I won’t tell you how to sing if you don’t tell me how to do, uh, program analysis. I’ll demonstrate my opinion about your music by not buying it. And you can demonstrate your opinion about my program analysis by...well, ya can’t cuz its a government job.
Heh, there’s a little leftism right back atcha!

Aware she may sound “bizarre”, the 31-year-old believes the vitriol directed at The Dixie Chicks was part of a right-wing conspiracy.
An organised group known as the Free Republic set out to bring the band down.
The organisation’s power, she says, comes through the internet. The site has thousands of subscribers, all of whom were encouraged to destroy the band’s music and boycott the radio stations that played it.
“It’s scary how much power they do have,” she says. “They can take down someone singlehandedly and I don’t think Americans are aware of that.
“It’s the same group that went after (former US president) Bill Clinton and (gay actress) Ellen DeGeneres.”
Just the fact that this dizzy bimbo is trying to make up with the American public tells me that she realizes she royally screwed herself (and her partners) career-wise. But she still wants to hang on to her “courageous and controversial” creds with leftists, so she keeps talking trash overseas. So not only is she stupid, she’s a two-faced liar.
I bet the Freepers are having a good laugh over that one. (And planning who to take down next no doubt--I have a few nominations.)
And now for today’s non sequitur (compliments of the ditzy flipsie dixie chicksie):
"I’ve always stood up for homosexuals. I just always had these really strong convictions about doing so.”
I’m sure Mark Foley will be happy to hear that.

If I want politics, I’ll watch Question Time.

Yup. Went to jail along with Michael Moore (ya haven’t seen him lately now have ya?), Babs Streisand, George Clooney, Al Franken, Randi Rhoads, Susan Sarandon and over 50,000 librarians. Right after 9-11. Part of Bush’s crushing of dissent. You might have heard about it if you did anything but watch Faux News.

Why, o why does anybody listen to any of the toad and spider-like words that fall out of her mouth?
At least country stars of old just got drunk in the back seats of cars and cheated on their spouses. They didn’t go around shooting off their flapping yaps to everyone about how courageously bravely wonderful they are for dissing the Prez.
