FITE URGS WITH PASSIN

Margo Kingston on “passinate” fighter turned Telstra sellout—yay!—Barnaby Joyce:

Barnaby is fighting competing urges in a passinate and very public way, like Latham did, remember?

Yes. Yes, we do.

He has harnessed people power to stop the sale by convincing very cynical voters that he was different. Then he proved to be the same, almost in an INSTANT!

Why, it’s like Margo’s change of opinion on Mark Latham.

The Telstra story isn’t over yet, folks. Senator Barnaby Joyce will get so many emails from pissed off Ozzies [Imre Salusinszky asks: “Nelson or Osbourne?”] - and irate contact in other forms - he’ll either change his mind or collapse as a centred human being.

At which point he’ll join Margo’s bi-tri-quadpolar Webdiary team. Speaking of which, Webdiary insight artist Robert Bosler—may the winning energy be upon him—has evidently commenced making soup.

  2. collapse as a centred human being

That would be eccentric.  That may hit close to home.

    Neither.

One is dead, and the other is….well, he looks dead.

  5. Can Margo please explain to me where Barnaby said he would never vote for the sale of Telstra?

I thought his position had been that for him to support the sale of Telstra the gummint must stash away a chunk of money to ensure that the telco services are properly provided to the bush (irrespective of which telco provides the cable/satellite/carrier pigeon)

  6. Hey, this Bosler character seems to be stealing James Lileks’ shtick (I refer to the latter’s hilarious commentaries on various ghastly dishes featured in 1950’s era cookbooks; I believe some of these are still featured on his web site in the “galleries” section).

  9. Wordsworth, rewritten by Margo:

STRANGE fits of passin have I known:
And I will dare to tell,
But in the Lover’s ear alone,
    What once to me befell.

  14. So Margo is championing Telstra?  Hmmm ...

Telstra needs to compete in the real world.  Ex Government businesses such as QANTAS and the Commonwealth Bank have prospered and recently recorded good profits.  Telstra has also recorded good profits because of their monopoly position.

I decided today to move my Telstra mobile (four fones in family), land line and internet to Optus after visiting an Optus franchise store in Miranda today.  Optus wanted my business, Telstra didn’t.  I called Telstra several times, but they were quite unresponsive.  A pity.  Now what to do with my Telstra shares ...
