FIRE, RAIN, BUSH BLAMED

Heavy rain in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. The cause?

Experts said on Friday that the intensity of the heavy rain fall is increasing, causing more devastation due to climate change triggered by global warming.

Massive wildfires across southern California. The cause?

At a Democratic event Sunday, Jeanne Shaheen faulted the Bush administration for the fires that ravaged Southern California.

“These wildfires are a direct result of this administration’s failure to do something about global warming,” Shaheen said ...

This kid is off the hook, then:

LOS ANGELES - Officials blamed a wildfire that consumed more than 38,000 acres and destroyed 21 homes last week on a boy playing with matches, and they said they will ask a prosecutor to consider the case ...

“He admitted to playing with matches and accidentally starting the fire,” [Sgt. Diane] Hecht said in a statement.

  1. Apathy, thy name is Newcastle.

The GWarmenistas today kicked a spectacular own-goal today with the “people’s blockade of the world’s biggest coal port.”

Touted as a defining protest against the evil black stuff, the event had all the fire of a damp sock.

As we headed out to sea at 12.30pm in our diesel-guzzling fishing boat, the spouse & I counted a couple of kayaks, some tinnies (a few of which which appeared to contain fishermen), an unmarked but official-looking large alumininium vessel crewed by numerous black-clad figures, and an inflatable also crewed by black-clad figures.

Most human activity appeared to be concentrated in and around the numerous harbourfront restaurants (natural for a Saturday lunchtime, I suppose).

When we came back to port just before 4pm the sad little flotilla had disappeared, and smack bang on full tide the first coal ship of the day was heading out through the channel. Not a protestor in sight.

They’d set the event for 10am-3pm, a nice day out, but apparently didn’t realise coal ships loaded to the gunnels can only leave port here on the high tide window (which today was 33.-4.30pm) because of depth restrictions over the bar.

    Better planning next time, people?

Things are going swimmingly *hee hee* as far as the music goes, but my next real outdoor adventure is going to be helping a local rancher with a “prairie dog problem.”

  8. #7 sounds like fun Huc.

I’m going to have a similar problem soon.

I live in a great little rural area about 90 minutes drive out of Sydney.

We have found out recently, that our local council has granted permission for a Muslim school to be built about 2k’s down the road from my property.

We don’t have ANY mussies living in the area. They are going to send kids from almost two hours away to this school if it goes ahead.

They will cause massive disruption in traffic. There’s only one way in and out of town. They will contribute absolutely nothing to the local community, but we will have to provide infrastructure, transport help, sewerage and town water. None of which WE have ourselves. Those of us that live on the outskirts of town.

They say that the school will provide for 1,200 students, none of which will join local sporting groups, youth groups etc.

No money will be spent back into our community. But they will expect everything to be handed to them without question.

We are going to try to stop it, but, as always happens in these cases, they’ll try to play the “race” card, or threaten to bomb us.

I thought I’d try to set some pigs loose on the property they have bought to build the school on. May slow them down a little! LOL.

  13. Yeah cause droughts and fires are a totally new phenomenom in SoCal.

This from John R. Christy who is director of the Earth System Science Center at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and a participant in the U.N.‘s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, co-recipient of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize:

“For instance, hasn’t global warming led to the five-year drought and fires in the U.S. Southwest?

    Not necessarily.

There has been a drought, but it would be a stretch to link this drought to carbon dioxide. If you look at the 1,000-year climate record for the western U.S. you will see not five-year but 50-year-long droughts. The 12th and 13th centuries were particularly dry. The inconvenient truth is that the last century has been fairly benign in the American West. A return to the region’s long-term “normal” climate would present huge challenges for urban planners.”

You can always do what Craig Baker did in Katy, Texas, and start Friday night pig races. Or else do as the Spaniards on the Moros y Christianos day and hang hams outside to ward them off.

Pig racing with Bikini girl stewards would be good also.

Shits me no end to know that they’ll be getting to use all our services without having to pay any rates.

You can bet there’ll be a rate rise to help pay for all the extra “costs” involved.

We also have limited public transport. No rail, and only a couple of buses a day.

We’re having a meeting on Monday night to find out more and see what can be done.

The council seems to have been rather sneaky about the whole thing. Which is surprising as our council is usually really good about notifying us of anything new, or asking for opinions on any new building projects.

We wouldn’t even allow a McDonalds into our town.

This year, we’re getting a Maccas and a training ground for splodey dopes.

I think they’re trying for some snob value. The nearest Mussie school is at Casula, near Liverpool. It’s built on an old rubbish tip.

We’ve been told that kids will be coming from Penrith, Auburn, Canterbury, Blacktown. And further.

Why you’d want to put your kids through the amount of travelling this would involve is beyond me. Besides, there are heaps of empty paddocks in Penrith for sale. There is also a sizeable Mussie population there. Also regular train services.

“Why you’d want to put your kids through the amount of travelling…”

Think half a world and smuggler boats. For many muslims it’s worth a punt if you can get social security cheap, or better for free.

The entierity of islam is intimidation and leeching off an established modern society, contributing nothing.

Name me one islamic group that has contributed to the modern world of science, education, agriculture, arts, philosophy, international discourse in the past 100 years. Name one islamic country that hasn’t dragged itself back to the dark ages. (OK, Indonesia is still resisting).

This is why so many french and british people are now migrating to their former colonies in the pacific. Believe it, it’s true. They’re escaping the caliphate.

  30. Maree,

Everything you say and more is true.
If we needed extra proof, go to Melanie Phillips’ blog. She writes in depth on the problems being faced by the Brits.

The thing we fear most, if this school goes ahead, is the ghettoisation of our town. (don’t think that’s a real word, but it gets my point across).

It starts when one of them rents an empty shop in the town. Then another, then another. Before long, the whole street is full of filthy stores covered in squiggly writing. You only have to drive through Bankstown to see what I’m speaking of. They take no pride in their premises, unlike most shopkeepers who know you have to make your business look inviting for potential customers.

If it goes ahead, we’ll sell up at the end of next year. My son finishes high school then. The Southern Highlands are looking very promising right now for relocating.

  31. Pogria, sounds like what is happening here.  in a small town of 5,000 the muzzies want to build a conference center and mosque.
the owner of the farm land bought it years ago to put an massive housing development on it.  he currently leases the farm to a farmer!  however back then, the town fought him.  they don’t have the infrastructure to support the development.  now he wants to sell it to this sect who say all they want to do with it is build a mosque for their 20 odd people in the area to worship and a conference center for their 10,000 or so people to come to once a year for some sort of gathering.
the town’s people are being called racists for their fight against this new proposal. the muzzies will pay no taxes since they are a religious organisation and contribute nothing to the community.  Yet, they want to use the one road in and out of town, and use the town’s water supply.  who knows what else.  the hq for the group in the area is 50 miles away.  if they want a conference site there are several already built in areas nearby that can handle the traffic and influx of the pilgrims.
years ago, in the toronto area, they bought acreage and said all they wanted was a mosque and a conference center.  now they are building houses on the land.
this is what the town is trying to fight.  i don’t know all the details, only what i am reading in the media.
my instincts say “i smell a rat”

  33. Aaaargghh! Can’t people see colonisation as it’s happening? The reason it hasn’t happened in our town is that we’re mainly irish catholics, italians, greek orthodox, WASPs, vietnamese and filipino catholics, buddhists, eastern & russian orthodox, and a very few mussies from Indo and Malaysia. Lately a few black africans who are now causing trouble but will be hauled back.

For mine, it’s all about the mix. Too many of a particular group and you have trouble. Check out south-west sydney & the muzzies.

Check out Newcastle, everyone gets on okay. Some of the Pacific Islanders are trouble, but the worst are the doof-doof muslim boys from SW-Sydney who do their worst in Ncle at weekends just for sport.

Go back to Lebanon permantly, boys.

I am orginally from Bankstown, my mum is still there. She doesn’t like it. She feels intimidated shopping in Bankstown Square.
I have uncles and aunts who live in Parramatta and Woolooware and they bang on about how bad things are for muzzies, blah, blah, blah.
It is amazing how these people who don’t even live in an area and cannot see what happens there with males who think they own everything and women so pious that they can walk on water (well, they think they can).
I have never had a problem, but I live 1,000 kilometres away.
Take a drive around Lakemba (or Auburn), especially near the mosque, and you’ll see the ghettoisation of a suburb. Rubbish left on the street and in the front yards of houses and unkempt yards. I guess there isn’t much grass to mow in the desert.

  37. I lived in California through the 80’s and early 90’s.  There were lone voices warning us every summer that forest mismanagement was going to lead to ever bigger and more disastrous fires.

Of course they were ignored.  “Environmentalism” then as now meant believing that unenlightened man could only work evil upon the natural word.

And for heaven’s sake, let’s suppose (per impossibile) that global warming really was responsible for turning leagues of forest into a tinderbox.  Who could possibly believe seven years would be enough to reverse decades of change?  What was Bush supposed to do, walk through the trees with a water hose running?

  38. kae#36,

A friend of mine, Denise, has had to move her mother out of Lakemba as she’s one of the few white elderly widows left there now. The muslim lady three houses down has been doing Mrs Fyfe’s shopping for several years, abd they have a very friendly relationship. However, her son wanted Mrs Fyfe’s house as he was about to be married and wished to live in the same “village” with his parents and siblings.

Garbage began to be dumped in Mrs Fyfe’s yard, her cat was murdered, her fences were torched.

There was no other buyer for the property than her neighbour’s son because of the trouble. They are so relentless, they win in the end, and we go away just to get some peace.
