ELMER RUDD

Formerly aggressive ALP leader Kevin Rudd turns meek and trembly in the face of a John Howard counter-attack:

“What is he doing with the office of Prime Minister? Why is he not instead engaging with his opponent on positive alternative policy plans for the nation’s future?’‘

Disingenuous little fellow, ain’t he? He’s a shaker, too.

UPDATE. A Kevni Koncession:

He conceded last night that the leadership might have been discussed at his August 2005 dinner with Mr Burke and business leaders. “What I’ve said is I can’t recall that, but I’ve also said it’s quite possible that those sorts of questions were raised,” he said.

  1. I thought that was exactly what he was doing. The Prime Minister is offering the positive policy of his Ministers not being permitted to consort with convicted criminals while the prissy little God-botherer,Rudd, practices a policy which is diametrically the opposite. How much more engagement does he want?

Wall to wall corruption across Oz within the labour party.

Apsrt for that dinner- which kevin Rudd would have laboured long and hard on his ‘Key Note Speech on China- not an off the cuff chat. I want to hear how long were lunch and breakfast? not the rushed affair of the average working man/woman. These smack of much more intimate discussions. I suspect both took at least 1.5-2hours hours each so what was it that Kev needed so much time to discuss with this criminal.

It is interesting to recall that Robert Holmes A’Court managed to extract a grant of 750K for the WA WOOLLEN MILLS WHICH HE CLAIMED HE WAS GOING TO SAVE- but flogged it off and never had to repay the money. Also links to Bond. Also note that Mrs HAC stated on ABC that her parents were communists.Janet and Robert were both labour supporters and met at WA uni labour students union-was Brian Burke there then ? Janet now has big dealings with China and manages to use the WA orchestra as a front recieving a Milllion Dollars to take the orchestra over whilst she drum up business for her construction comapany.Kevs a China lover-any links? it would be interesting to know who attended that dinner.

  29. Made of sterner stuff than the Inscrutable Kevin, Nanny Attard- Mediawatch mentor- was last night almost popping her fasteners, shooting her cuffs, snapping her apron strings and scuffing her sensible shoes.
A drug addiction article in the SMH had been inserted into a page of fine wine ads, the ABC (Alan Kohler’s) Inside Business programme and Lateline Business (Peter Charley) had given away respectively $34,ooo and $71,000 (commercial equivalent value) of “advertising” space to “Roses Only.”
Apparently the new editorial guidelines order the ABC to avoid signage in their presentations. Huh, Emirates get stacks on ABC sport. Also, an ABC presenter named Ross Peddleston had presented a feature on the making of Bundy Rum, which he had been paid for privately. Nanny was rather cross and concluded with a VERY old fashioned look over the bi focals to camera “on ya bikes and I’ll see you next week”. Oh dear -no honey for tea again.

Being dropped from the Ministry to the backbench with the shattering loss of salary and perks would certainly feel very real. But more to the point,it doesn’t necessarily stop with Campbell, the policy regarding consorting with criminals is now firmly established and can be applied to any future transgressor. On the other hand Labor politicians have effectively been given the green light by Rudd to follow his example and defacto policy.

There is a danger that John Howard’s form of political statecraft will become entrenched as the national political norm. The prime minister’s now routine manipulation of the truth poses significant problems for the long-term integrity of our national institutions, including the great departments of state… There must be a new premium attached to truth in public life. That is why change must occur.

I have seen truckloads of shit thrown at the PM over the years and he never complains and demands it stop. That its getting too personal and lets talk policies.

And Rudd has been driving a few trucks - he threw muck over AWB for 6 months. He started this whole thing by bucketing 3 respected business figures in cowards castle.

The minute the little prick gets some back, he tries to grab the high moral ground and demands it to stop. He is beneath contempt.

  41. #29- I’ve been having a running punch-up with ABC managment over yoof network Triple J‘s employment of members of an “alternative” band on their breakfast program, and the fact that the same station plays their shithouse music and promotes their gigs- bad enough to be promoting any commercial products on a commercial broadcaster (ABC Shops? What ABC Shops?), but to be actively flogging the products and services of employees should be a clear breach of the guidelines and a conflict of interest, but not according to ABC Ayatollahs.

Let’s face it, this horror of a network’s entire schtick is in breach of commercial product guidelines- maybe grounds for a campaign to shut it down and save not only a bucket of dosh, but also our lugs from the aural assault it broadcasts (along with the continual green/left editorialising, also a breach of the standard).

It’s not just the two dreadlocked deadshits on the breakfast show either who get free plugs, every awful “comedian” they hire gets promos for shows, CDs etc; why is the public being forced to fund an advertising agency/music promoter, in direct competition with non-public service providers?

  43. Most people in the upper reaches of the Labor Party know what’s really going on here, I’m surprised the journos don’t, - though I shouldn’t be.  Kev’s needed to raise money to fund his leadership challenge, (flights, hotels, letters, phone bills etc), rather than dip into his own pocket. Who else would pay for these things?  Not the Party. In the past MP’s would rort their travel and postage allowances to fund their ambitious underhand manoeuvers. So who better to pull together a few thou out West than BB, who, cannier than most, sniffs a chance to introduce his clients to The Man Most Likely.  In the time honoured, fund-raising tradition of the workers party, well connected Labor lobbyists, - mostly former ministers and advisers, rally a few downtown high rollers for ‘access opportunities’. Rudd’s spins through WA would’ve picked up a tidy sum, except, that sort of money doesn’t come without strings attached. Sometime soon, I’d like to get some real information, like, who paid the restaurant bills that night? How many turned up?  How much did the CFMEU contribute and why, - and supplementary question, did their members approve?  Where were the funds deposited ultimately, (they all run slush funds, don’t deny it)? And why does everyone pretend these things don’t happen?

  44. #32 Lew, maybe “show” is not the right word.  But I get the impression that it was part of the plan.  I don’t want to sound like an SMH letters-writer, but you’d think Campbell would have gone for his other performances rather than the Burke meeting.

But you are correct - it sets a precedent for ministerial behaviour.  Nevertheless, the sacking wouldn’t have occurred if it couldn’t be used against Rudd.

Campbell could play his part a bit better.  How about some faked contrition?

TANYA PLIBERSEK: Yeah, and Graham Edwards supports Kevin in saying that he was there as Graham’s guest, that he was there as a friend of Graham’s.
    ...
CHRIS UHLMANN: ... the question that I’m putting to you is, if we know information that Brian Burke sent out an email on the 28th of July inviting people to a dinner with Kevin Rudd, that dinner was for the 1st of August, and Kevin Rudd’s official travel records don’t show him arriving in Western Australia until the 31st of July, that he now has more questions to answer about that dinner?
