DROWNING HORROR AWAITS

New Zealand is crazy for global warming hype:

Nearly 60 per cent of New Zealanders are concerned or very concerned about the effects of global warming, a new mini poll reveals.

So why is New Zealand’s government—led by warmening believer Helen Clark—backing the construction in Auckland of a $700 million waterfront sports stadium? Is Clark aware that rising seas will drown thousands of New Zealand athletes and their few fans who’ve yet to leave for Sydney?

Maybe that’s what she wants. Maybe that’s her plan. Meanwhile, Clark’s Foreign Affairs minister has racked up $250,000 in travel costs in just three months. That’s one expensive solar canoe he’s riding in.

  1. If I’m reading the article correctly, the main intent is to use the new stadium for hosting the Rugby World Cup. So, in addition to the current humorous bumper-stickers associated with this macho sport (“Rugby Players Have Leather Balls”, “Rugby Players Eat Their Dead”), I guess we’ll be seeing, “Rugby Players Lash the Drowned Corpses of Their Mates Together and Paddle to Dry Land.”

And where are the voices speaking out on behalf of the sheep?

  2. I think “crazy” is the operative word here.

  3. Hey-the New Zealand government is trying to save the planet by allowing students to use “text speak” on tests.

They’re probably saving a fortune in ink and pencil lead.

  4. Looks like the stadium would float, though.

  5. This is a part of the viro’s clever plan to bring down the population, thereby saving the world.  Taking a page from the Islamists, Clark realized the true value of sports venues is in getting large numbers of people to show up at one time, making the drowning of said large numbers much easier.  Playing an actual sport will keep them in their seats while the sea levels rise.

    That is one smart kiwi.

  6. In the spirit of #4, is there any truth to the rumours about Australian hover stadium technology?

  7. If the stadium floats (or hovers, who knows?), maybe the stadium is New Zealand’s version of Noah’s Ark.

Go ahead and laugh!  They laughed at Noah, y’know!  Maybe Helen Clark’s plan is to repopulate the world exclusively from kiwis, hmmmmmmmm?

  9. #3 91B30, as much as I would prefer it to be true, I read in one of the Aussie papers today that the Kiwi education department is flatly denying they are allowing textspeak in exams, and are bemused by the origins of the story

Birds AND fruit, Rebecca.  That way, Mother Gaia™ need never worry about human incursion again.

This doesn’t include Helen Clark, however.  She’s clearly not human, and thus eligible for a slot on the NZ Ark™.

  12. That’s just PACO: the Pacific Athletes Carbon Offset. You kill farting cows to make balls, stadium seats and leather athletic shoes, to name just a few items, and it all works out evenly in the end.

  13. Once again we have a bunch of people claiming they are worried about something, but not willing to personally do anything about it. Here are a few basic stats from the UN:

Increases in greenhouse gas emissions, 2000-2004:-

New Zealand (part of Kyoto) +6.8%
    Australia (rejected Kyoto)  +4.9%

    Or an equally valid comparison

    Canada (part of Kyoto) +4.5%
    USA (rejected Kyoto)  +1.3%

These figures do not include the nebulous area of “land use changes”, which would reduce the figure for Australia.

And a special mention to Turkey, which has ratified Kyoto, but has seen its emissions rise 72% since 1990.

If rugby fans were wondering why those field level seats were so cheap…wonder no more.

  18. NZ Government reports indicate that by the time sea levels are high enough to drown spectators, all of New Zealand’s inhabitants will have moved to Australia anyway. So, you know, might as well spend it while they can.

  21. Given Peters’ position as Foriegn Minister but not a member of the lefties, I think Clark would think $250,000 is money well spent keeping the loose canon out of the country.  (And loose canon is probably a polite way of putting it!)

  23. (#13 - Hey Zscore - its me - from cricket fora. Good to see you here!)

Hopefully the Stern report will be seen as the high water mark of scaring people with climate change.

One thing about Big Al Gore. He apparently had this thing burning in him since college in the mid 70s. He was a believer then. So, why didn’t he do something of note in 8 years in the White House. I mean, he must not have been hiding Bill’s girls from Hilary 24/7. What did he do? He completely skips over this in the scare piece.

There is a punchline to this-right-just in invisible ink or something?

  26. #13, thanks for those figures. Proves what I’ve long suspected.

Signing Kyoto increaes your carbon emissions.

Of course, I still haven’t got a clue about how they actually measure these emissions, not do I care, but that’s not the point.
