DOPE POPED

Just as the previous Pope had no time for scheming Sandinistas, Pope Youth Hitler I is disinclined to indulge Venezuelan nation-wrecker Hugo Chávez:

The Venezuelan President’s audience with the Pope yesterday was not the vote-winning photo opportunity that he might have hoped for.

Instead, Pope Benedict XVI, increasingly wary of foreign leaders using meetings at the Vatican for political purposes, gave Hugo Chávez, the aggressively populist left-wing leader, a stern lecture on the need to respect religious freedom in a nation where 96 per cent of the population is Roman Catholic.

Then he shot him in the neck, and everyone had some pie.

  1. Yes, but was the pie served from Chavez’s skull?

The Church just isn’t what it used to be. They’ve gone soft.

  3. I never thought I’d say this, but there are times when you can wax nostalgic about the days when the Church could burn people at the stake.

Seriously though, even though I don’t agree with a lot of this Pope’s positions, I have to give him props for being nobody’s fool.

  4. You just can’t expect a former Hitler Youth member to treat an elected moderate leader like Chavez with the respect he deserves.

  7. The man is sending his country down the road to abject slavery and the poverty that slavery brings and all the Pope can do is caution him about how he treats religion?  I suppose that is because the slaves will need something to get them through the hell.

The point is that in a country almost totally Roman Catholic, demanding political freedom for the church in Venezuela is essentially giving power away. And Chavez can’t afford to do that.

The Pope very effectively painted Chavez into a corner.
