Sheila O’Malley is on a serious Dean Martin bender. Click for very cool pix.
2. Wonderfiul.
When I was depressed one Christmas, no movie cheered me up like Dean and Jerry’s Artists and Models.

As someone who couldn’t stand Jerry Lewis (so beloved in France), I was most gratified when Dino’s solo career took off while Lewis’ justly floundered. And never forget: When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that’s amore, pal.

The guys in the background with suits, upper level, are packing heat…the Rat Pack protectors.
Dino Crocetti did do well, even though he changed his name. Wasn’t good in those days and earlier to be Sicilian or Italian in the U.S.
Irish guys use to chase and beat Sicilians and Italians. That is until we caught them and left them in alleys for the cops to find. Needless to say, I don’t celebrate St. Patrick’s day…Dean did, had to sell those recordings and pack Vegas.
Ahhh yes the good old days as my father (from Palermo) and mother (from Siracusa) use to say…:).
I’m tired of these suave entertainers in suits providing entertainment.
If Dean Martin wants holy war, I say we give it to him.

Now bieng in my late thirties, my first exposure to Dean Martin would have been the celebrity roast show he MC’d when I was a kid. I feel blessed to have witnessed in real-time, at least the end of his career.
Having seen a couple of documentarys on him and Jerry Lewis and their partnership, Dino deserves a freakin’ medal for putting up with JL’s crap.
It just figures too, that the frogs would love Jerry Lewis. Maybe its just another way for them to deliberatly piss off the normal people of the world.
#4 Kyda - I always thought of that as the eel song: “that’s a moray”.
Thanks a lot for destroying my most beloved illusions.
For ages, I kept a photo from the Bega Times which showed an eel suspended over a transmission line after the recession of the 1976 floods.
I used to show it to people and say “that’s a moray”. And it was.
Life was so much simpler back then.
“I once shook hands with Pat Boone and my whole right side sobered up.”
Dean Martin.Posted by Infidel Tiger on 2006 09 18 at 09:24 PM • permalinkMy favorite piece of graffiti in the U-district of Seattle was a painting of a large martini glass with the words “screw Jerry’s kids, here’s to Dean’s kids”.
Posted by David Crawford on 2006 09 19 at 12:21 AM • permalinkDino’s self-deprecating humor and feigned drunkenness would never make it in today’s TV world. I remember his variety show where he’d have a smoke and a highball while doing his solo. He played his props like Benny played his violin.
Posted by Some0Seppo on 2006 09 19 at 09:14 AM • permalinkI had an obsession with Dean my senior year in college. Even tried to set up a Dean Martin Society. My mistake was calling his agent to get a blessing. Agent sounded like one of those 300-lb-white-chest-hairs-by-the-poolside agents from way back. He said no way; the drinks were just a prop and “Mr. Martin” wouldn’t have anything to do with encouraging young people to drink.
I bet he would have, if enough girls had been on the list.

We used to watch his show on tv when I was a kid.
