DIGNITY PRESERVED

A Hong Kong insider writes:

Attached is a Hong Kong Government (Education Department) guidelines document for the torch relay in HK on May 2nd.

Observe the top paragraph on the second page about security measures needed to ‘preserve the dignity of the Olympic flame’.

Other dignity-preserving flame measures apparently include Torch Protector goon squads, who will only be called upon (during the relay’s Australian leg) if there is “really serious trouble.”

  3. If there’s serious trouble, and the goon squads jump into the foray, will they be charged with assault if they hurt someone?

    Thought not.

  4. I don’t suppose one of those DC-10 water tankers is available.

  6. Or you can have your torchbearers scurry around the back alleys like San Francisco did.

  7. This is one time I think I am really hoping all the rent-a-protest types in Australia turn up.

I have previously admitted to being a bit conflicted on the relay - but now I’m itching to see some swampies get the bejezus walloped out of them. APEC was a fizzer for good walloping.  This could make up for it.
