CREEDAL WAVE SWAMPS WIMPS
Martin Amis on sympy stupey liberals:
People of liberal sympathies, stupefied by relativism, have become the apologists for a creedal wave that is racist, misogynist, homophobic, imperialist and genocidal. To put it another way, they are up the arse of those that want them dead.
(Via Art Vandelay)
>Leading British writer on terrorism and Islamism Martin Amis
Leading novelist maybe, but “leading writer on terrorism and Islamicism” he ain’t (aside from a few overblown prose pieces about 9/11).
I wonder whether he would have had quite such robust opinions on this matter had he not been an old friend of Rushdie, an old friend of Hitchens, an old friend of Robert Conquest, and of course the son of Kingsley.

It’s getting more and more crowded in there.

Smells like crap too.
Of course, that’s true of any place leftys congregate.

Another good snippet:
The phrase “horrorism”, which you invented to describe 9/11, is unintentionally hilarious. Have you got any more? JONATHAN BROOKS, by email
Yes, I have. Here’s a good one (though I can hardly claim it as my own): the phrase is “fuck off”.
Amis is a snot, but I have to give him a woohoo for that one.
#7: Vladimir Voinovich, the great Russian comic author, has written some scathing satires of Stalin and the Stalinist period. Probably his best known work is The Extraordinary Life and Adventures Of Private Ivan Chonkin. A book of short stories, In Plain Russian, includes a story (the title escapes me) about Stalin and a meeting with his henchmen that is a unique blend of farce and terror. I cannot recommend Voinovich too highly.
Probably the most horrifying book I ever read about the Stalin Era is Execution By Hunger, by Miron Dolot. The book deals with the Ukrainian famine engineered by Stalin as part of his collectivization program. Absolutely heart-breaking history.
“They may be racist, etc., but at least they aren’t Republicans.”
In America liberal means Democrat, and saying that they MAY be racist is like saying the sun may be warm.
At least going by their past record.

Stalin is possibly the biggest mass-murderer in history if one considers all victims from all causes. Stalin was a true psychopath who is roasting in hell if there is any justice.
Posted by Mystery Meat on 2007 01 18 at 06:37 PM • permalink#15 - I wouldn’t bet on Stalin with Mao in the running. The Great Helmsman probably edges out Uncle Joe by a few million.
However, the genocidal prize for the 20th Century Murderous Dictator Stakes, on a per capita basis, goes to Pol Pot, who wiped out a third of his populace.
Commies always like to say “you can’t make an omelet without breaking eggs.” I guess because it sounds more homey than “You can’t make an omelet without slaughtering a few million innocent victims.”

Posted by Daniel San on 2007 01 18 at 09:16 PM • permalinkActually it doesn’t even make sense in theory (economic theory at any rate). Von Mises demonstrated that Central Planning won’t work in 1922. It’s due to what is called the Economic Calculation Problem. Without free price movements you cannot logically decide what to make, how to make it, or what methods and materials to use in order to make goods and services in an economically efficient matter. That’s why the USSR got 10 ton chandaliers and nails too thin to be hammered.

I think that he’s now imposing some personal bugbears unnecessarily on the present situation, but when he sounds like his old sparring partners he’s waking up and smelling the coffee.

Another chance to impliment the glory of socalism is in progress right now.
Chavez has been granted the authority to rule by decree alone.
No opposition, no debate, no restrictions.
Remind me again what lefties allways claim righties do in democracies???Posted by thefrollickingmole on 2007 01 19 at 07:25 AM • permalink
