<< HEADINGLEY 1981 TO BE AVENGED! ~ MAIN ~ FRIENDS >>
CORRECTION DUE TONIGHT
Mark Steyn takes on the taxpayer-funded anti-conservative activists at Media Watch. And wins.
If I were to pick a fight with Steyn I’d be darn sure I had a watertight case behind me. The hacks at MW have poured their pilgering schtick over the wrong guy this time.

Posted by The Thin Man Returns on 2005 08 28 at 08:51 PM • permalinkNora, I think you’ll find that’s “Answer not a fool...” And how could MW ‘apologize’, short of climbing into one of those devices that dunks you into a vat of bright green custard, or whatever. Still, if Liz promises to wear her black see-through number again tonight, I for one will temper justice with mercy.
Alas cuckoo - you’re half right. It’s frm that little known Jewish book called Proverbs:
Proverbs 26:4-5 (KJV):
4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit. In other words - don’t stoop to their level but by all means let them know they’re wrong.

-- NoraPosted by The Thin Man Returns on 2005 08 29 at 03:02 AM • permalinkYes Blind Freddy. Mark Steyn is an unashamedly conservative writer as is his right. Media Watch pretends its objective is to guard against careless errors, misleading writing, disguised advertising, plagiarism etc without fear or favour. That plus the little matter of being publicly funded means it doesn’t earn the right to choose sides.
If Liz Jackson wants to write articles under her name putting the left viewpoint that’s not a problem. Other people can simply argue the counter case.
Bias isn’t the problem its bias under the pretence of balance as critics of Fox News constantly remind us.
#20. Are you THE ‘Oscar Werring’ who posts at Webdairy? You’re SO rad!1!1 :(

Methinks this is off target. How about....
Steyn works on describing reality, Jackson spins it to the left. And so it goes.

OOPS!I must have blinked - I don’t recall seeing anything about Mark Steyn at all.

"We don’t have time”.
Oh good, that means they’ll devote the whole 15 minutes to a live interview with Mark next week won’t they?
Nick points out that this tease is ample demonstration that these criticisms of Media Watch are really hitting home.
As I said a few weeks ago, MW is in its death throes. It wouldn’t surprise us if we were its largest bloc of viewers.
How would it be if we ignored Media Watch altogether and lobbied our Federal politicians to further restrict funding to the irrelevance of the ABC?
Another example that proves welfare doesn’t work. i doubt Liz Jackson could get a real job.

Isn’t that libelous or at least extemely childish. Isn’t that they type of reporting that media watch is supposed to watch out for. Where is Media Watch Watch? And why do my tax dollars get wasted on such crap?Melanie, I think you will find that we are all a part of Media Watch Watch.

There were several pretty good critiques of your rather too casual equating of an independent conservative writer with a government-funded left-wing hit squad. As someone here said, it’s a favorite tool of the left to say “everyone does it” when confronted with facts that cannot be refuted. I notice you have not reappeared here to answer your challengers. Are you lurking? Are you one of our famous trolls? Speak up, man. Are you Bryla, back from the banished lands?
Goodness, anything less than fawning admiration for the mighty Tim and suddenly you’re a troll! Thanks for pointing out the differences between Mark and Liz, guys, but I didn’t think you’d have to be a ‘tool of the left’ to pick the similarities. Anyway, that’s water (or trolls) under the bridge, now I know Steyn is a sacred cow I won’t be disrespecting him no more. Carn the Swannies!
Posted by blind freddy on 2005 08 29 at 10:31 PM • permalinkSteyn isn’t a sacred cow, Freddie, he’s just a really good writer who points out - and generally leads to slaughter - the sacred cows of the chattering classes.
You can disrespect him all you like, but you need to understand the difference between him and the putative government-funded “neutral” MediaWatch. The are covert, Steyn is overt. They are cowards, Steyn is courageous. There are other writers like him. Victor Davis Hanson comes to mind. David Horowitz is another. They are all free-lance, free-market, free-thinking writers. That they are conservative is not hard to understand. Once you get the whole left agenda (blame Chimpy McHitler Bush, blame America, blame the Christians, blame the Jews, blame the corporations, etc.) it’s hard to be a leftist. Their thinking is so counter to personal experience and intuition not to mention the facts, that once innoculated against the virus of leftwing thinking, one moves steadily rightwards where people still point out the emperor (for instance, Kyoto) sans culottes.

anyhoo,
I made this entry on the Media Watch site - problem is,
if you want to view it, then good luck.
It’s gonna take a patience bigger than mine to wade through the crap on this ‘website’.
If you’re interested in reading, literally, five-hundred (no fucking joke), whinging suck-ups to MediaWatch, besides the occasional good bit from one of us, then have fun.
In then meantime, this was my entry:
Julian Henderson: You were cool once, but now you suck.
In my vague booze-addled memories of uni, I always had a soft-spot for Media Watch.
Now that leftoids have taken over the place, I’m a little concerned.
What happened to the stories of the like of exposing John Laws’s monstrous sell-outs?
You’re trying to beat up Mark Steyn now?
When sombody tries to beat-up Mark Steyn, everyone who knows anything can smell something, and that something goes by the name of ‘Agenda’.
Makes me feel embarassed to be a former fan…
Yuk.
Go WARNIE!!!!!!!
