CLASH CONVERTERS

Terrorist Christians—well, former Christians; most likely Presbyterians—in Southeast Asia:

A network of homegrown converts to radical Islam has emerged as a major terrorist threat in Southeast Asia, teaming up with higher-profile al-Qa’ida offshoots Jemaah Islamiah and Abu Sayyaf to plot attacks on Western and local targets.

Manila’s top anti-terrorism official has told The Australian that the group of former Christians known as Rajah Solaiman is highly educated and well-financed and lacked the profile of traditional Islamist terrorist groups, making it easier to evade detection.

Also in today’s Australian, an update on Minnesota’s alcohol-banning jicabbies:

The ban has created chaos at Minneapolis-St Paul international airport, where about three-quarters of the 900 taxi drivers are Somali and mostly Muslim.

Airport officials have begun working with taxi drivers to install colour-coded lights on taxi roofs to indicate which are alcohol friendly and which are not.

Uh-oh. You know what happens to roof-lit vehicles driven by the Faithful. Incoming!

UPDATE. The Australian’s editorial:

What is happening at the airport in Minneapolis-St. Paul is just as much of an indictment of multiculturalism as other incidences of self-censorship and self-flagellation that occur on a near-daily basis among Westerners seeking to avoid or atone for offending the most prudish or outlandish of Islamic sensibilities. And it shows what can happen when a culture allows immigrants to behave as conquerors, instead of politely but firmly suggesting that newcomers who wish to impose their theocratic ways on a secular community try their luck elsewhere. One wonders what Minneapolis’s cabbies will demand next. The right not to drive passengers home from the supermarket if they are carrying bacon? That couples present a marriage licence before holding hands in the back seat? (In that case, perhaps Margaret Whitlam could get a retirement job driving taxis in the Twin Cities.)

UPDATE II. Florida Cracker:

The airport authorities are working on a system of color-coding the lights on the cabs to make it easier to direct passengers to the appropriate vehicles. They haven’t decided on the colors, but I think they should keep yellow in reserve as it would be a good choice for designating which cabbies will carry Jews.

UPDATE III. Piglito:

If someone wants to lose business over a religious principle, let them, is my laissez-faire response. Market conditions will certainly sort this out. Mid-westerners will not support such businesses, and others will come along.

UPDATE IV. Wheat and Weeds:

What about a Catholic driver refusing to drive someone to an abortion clinic?

And there will be no taxis to catch. In almost every country I’ve travelled to, Muslims are the taxi drivers, cleaners, shopping trolley attendants and so on. This can only be from a culture that doesn’t impress on its youth the benefits of education and achievement, instead of victimhood and complaint.

I look at Jews and Asians who arrived in Australia penniless and powerless. They were about the biggest “victims” you could imagine but are now prominent business-people, doctors and academics. Their kids go to schools and universities as their parents know this is the key to a good life.

Then I look at unbelievable statistics for illiteracy and unemployment in the Arab world and second or third-generation permanent unemployment in Lakemba and know I’m not being racist. It’s a real problem and surely nothing to do with “victimhood” or “disadvantage”. Just desire and motivation.

I don’t like looking at other’s moral failures. It makes me queasy. You see if I’m morally superior to someone else it will be because they have failed not because I’m especially wonderful or virtuous.

To you morality appears to be a way of counting coup and of self congratulation. Why else would you be trying to take hyperbole literally? Most of the rest of the commenters know narcissism when they see it.

  39. #21 Kalli re: the Cronulla riots and the revenge attacks.

“What you reap is what you sow, quite un-Australian to dish it out but not
    be able to take it.”

    Kalli, you are a moron.

    - The Cronulla rioters were disorganized.
    - The violence was unplanned, and a festival bbq atmosphere had prevailed for hours before-hand.
    - The participants were unarmed.
    - The victims mainly suffered humiliation. I don’t support this, but none of them suffered serious or life-threatening injuries.  Having beer splashed on you and being abused might be scary, but it’s not going to land you in the morgue.

Now compare that to the revenge attacks:
    - weapons involved included numchuckas, Glock pistols, baseball bats, and knifes.
    - the violence was orchestrated and people were injured in attacks across dozens of suburbs, not just Cronulla.
    - scores of cars were destroyed.
    - a middle-aged woman in Maroubra was smashed unconcscious with a baseball bat while putting her Otto bin out.
    - a guy in Caringbah was stabbed defending some women who were were attacked at the golf course. He almost died of his injuries.
    - two churches were attacked in Auburn (one destroyed.)
    - a catholic primary school had twenty bullets fired into its grounds while they were holding a christmas carolling night. (again, in Auburn).
    - a female police officer near Lakemba Mosque had her arm broken.
    - journalists had pistols waved in their faces.
    - pedestrians were asked “if they were Aussie” and assaulted, in suburbs that were 40 minutes drive from both Cronulla and the muslim districts of south-west Sydney.  (My gf at the time is a nurse at Westmead and personally treated one of the bashing victim from Castle Hill. He was unconscious for ten hours, and his face was literally “black” from the bruising.

Oh, and lets compare the police investigation afterwards:
    - the Aussie flagellated themselves with guilt.
    - On the other hand, the Lebanese Muslim community blamed everyone but themselves.
    - Many of the Aussies who spoke to the cameras (whilst obviously intoxiated) publicly apologized for their more extreme statements and expressed shame.
    - On the other hand, the Lebanese Muslim community, at least judging by their appearance on “4 Corners” a few months later, continued to blame everyone but themselves, and expressed no shame.
    - more than 20 Aussies captured on TV footage voluntarily handed themselves in to police.  In one case, a father took his teenage son to the police station because he felt he needed to own up to his bad behaviour.
    - On the other hand, the Lebanese community totally closed ranks.  None of them handed themselves in.  No Lebanese fathers thought their sons needed to own up to anything.

The infamous convoy that went from the Lakemba mosque to Miranda, and was unmolested by the police or highway patrol, drove right past me on King George’s Road at ~10:30pm on the first night of revenge attacks, lights flashing, horns blaring, and running every single red light on the way.

One of these dickheads swerved into the median area while running a red. I almost beeped back and gave him the finger.  When I read of how many weapons were in that convoy, I’m glad I didn’t!

Do you live in Sydney, Kalli?
Do you have any connection to either Cronulla, Bankstown, or Auburn districts, Kalli?
Do you have the faintest clue about the simmering tensions and unresolved social problems that exist here?
Do you have any idea of how long the police have ignored these tensions in the name of political-correctness?

Just spare us your ignorant bullshit, Kalli.

  43. Since they built light-rail from the airport to downtown Minneapolis, I have never taken a cab. In addition to not making moral/religious judgments on what you have in your suitcase, the light-rail trains don’t refuse to make eye contact, speak in surly grunts, act like they’ve never heard of major intersections or landmarks, drive 30 miles an hour down the middle of two lanes (or alternately, drive 60 mph during snowstorms), or demand exact change after you arrive at your destination.

If Muslims think alcohol is sinful, then they shouldn’t drink. Making such a huge stink over a flight attendant having a bottle of wine in her luggage is outrageous. It’s not only an example of them attempting to impose their values on the larger community. It’s also an example of them trying every day, in some little way, to cause friction and disquiet. That wasn’t my point.  My point was that the major problem seen with Islam today is terrorism.  The major problem today (or one of many perhaps) associated with Christianity today ( in particular the Catholic Church) is the child abuse scandal.  So, I was wondering if a cartoon depicting Jesus molesting an altar boy (for example) would be published by those same papers that published the Mohammed cartoons. I don’t think they would, so i wonder about their motives for the Mohammed cartoons.

They do publish blasphemous, insulting cartoons about Jews, Israel, and Christians, all the time. The original ‘cartoons’ were published in an Arabic Egyptian newspaper, Al Fadr in October 2005, months prior to them being published in the Danish newspaper, Jylliands Posten.
