CIVILIAN AREAS USED
The UN reports:
Speaking to the press in Cyprus over the weekend, Egeland said it is wrong, according to international law, to have disproportionate attack against civilian populations, as is now happening in Lebanon. But it is also wrong and condemnable, he added, to use civilian areas to

And since both parties are doing wrong things, they cancel out, so both parties are exactly the same. Neither one better than the other.
It’s the same as if a Muslim broke down my door and I
speared him with my Zulu speardamn, well, um,smashed him with my Norman shield,no, don’t have that anymore thanks to Andrea, ok, hit him with my wife’s dust mop. We both committed acts of violence, so we’re exactly equal. In accordance with the UN outlook on things of this nature, I should apologize to the Muslim for hitting him with the dust mop.Posted by wronwright on 2006 07 25 at 05:36 AM • permalinkThe UN is quite right. Israel should be far more sporting and take care to cause damage of a similar magnitude to that inflicted by its Iranian backed enemy. Or - even better - Israel should wait until Hezbollah has weaponry with a destructive power similar to Israel’s arms. Now that would ensure proportionality. After all, neutralising the threat posed by the unleashing of over 10000 Hezbollah rockets should hardly be top of Israel’s agenda.

Posted by James Waterton on 2006 07 25 at 05:57 AM • permalinkPerhaps there is a special algorithm in the program at the UN’s site that automatically erases any negative mention of the Islamic poor miserable poverty-stricken humiliated victims of multiple oppressions and occupations, and/or their supporters. The UN is an entity devoted to diplomacy, after all; mustn’t allow any embarrassment to attach for inadvertant little faux pas, such as sounding like you are for Israel in any way, shape or form.
I thought he said “To use civilian areas too.”
Of course, he could have meant two or tu.

Pretty soon they will fade as light waves have trouble escaping the utter suckiness that is that moral void. Im sure Zoe could back me up with some hockey stick graphs if neccesary.
Paco is there any early bidding allowed on the UN (Un) site yet?

The situation in Lebanon is “very bad, and deteriorating by the day”, said Mr Egeland. On Sunday he described the bombing of south Beirut as “a violation of humanitarian law”.
But last night he had harsh words for Hizbullah as well, rebuking the Shi’ite group for cravenly using civilians as human shields. “Hizbullah must stop this cowardly blending ... among women and children,” Mr Egeland said.
Bush not only condemns Hezbollah’s human shield cowardice, he expects action:
Mr Bush still opposed the idea of an immediate ceasefire, he added, saying there was no reason to believe it would stop violence in the Middle East; instead the world should confront Hizbullah and its practice of using the Lebanese people as “human shields”.
What about this for an idea?
The UNIFL (which is just an observation force anyway, a job it accomplishes with particular aplomb) can keep score of the casuality count.
When Hezbollah knocks off a couple of Israeli kids then they can say, fair enough, Israel now gets to top a couple of Lebanese kids to ensure ‘proportionality’. And vice versa. You couldn’t trust them to count Israeli casualties, of course. Would need to use the Red Cross or some such organisation.
Nobody could then complain that the response is unfair.

You could hear his voice rising to a crescendo, you could see the tears welling up in his eyes, as he said it was wrong - MORALLY WRONG I think he said with great emphasis, as he pounded the lectern - to use civilian areas to
Let’s see…600 rockets into southern Israel after they moved out of Gaza and before the soldier was grabbed, and 150 rockets into northern Israel just the day before the 2 soldiers were kidnapped.
Of course they want a ceasefire (but only if Israel is winning). Of course war is bad for children and other living things (unless they are Jewish). Of course the plight of homeless civilians is terrible (unless it’s Jews who had to move south). Of course the response is disproportionate (unless it’s the arab response).
What a load of

Halfhearted attempts, to be sure, but amazing considering the absence before. Why, even aol.com/news is actually showing pictures of the damage in Israeli cities caused by Hezbollah rockets, instead of the usual one-sided “leveling of Lebanon”.
For the first time, after all these decades, the MSM is decrying the Islamist tendency to shove women and children in front of Israeli fire. After all these decades. It’s enough to make you want to

Posted by wronwright on 2006 07 25 at 12:23 PM • permalinkI have noticed a remarkable lack of proportionality in the hatred of Hezbollah-ites and Israelis. Who do those Zionists think they are? They think they’re so high and mighty. They should be forced - FORCED, I tell you! - to hate the Arabs/Muslims just as much as the Arabs/Muslims hate them. I mean, there are mosques - MOSQUES, I tell you! - in Israel! Until this balance of hatred is redressed, there will be no peace in the Middle East.

According to
The UN yesterday stopped short of accusing Hezbollah of using ambulances as transport vehicles. However, it suggested that the cowardly tactic of blending in with civilians had contributed to the terrible toll taken on communities in the south, where most of the 391 Lebanese have been killed.“Consistently, from the Hezbollah heartland, my message was that Hezbollah must stop this cowardly blending ... among women and children,” UN humanitarian affairs chief Jan Egeland said.
“I heard they were proud because they lost very few fighters and that it was the civilians bearing the brunt of this. I don’t think anyone should be proud of having many more children and women dead than armed men.”

His UN minders must have pointed out he was about to inadvertently condemn terrorists.
Koffi couldn’t have that…
