CIRCLE WORK

Strangely hypnotic is this clip of a guy who draws circles. Perfect circles.

  1. Hmmm,

Impressive, but no such thing as an absolutely perfect circle. Only perfect to a specified tolerance.

  2. Pretty neat.  And a little floor show to go along with it.

  3. Leonardo (da Vinci, not de Caprio) said that if you could draw a perfect circle, you were an artist.

If this guy hates the correct politicians (e.g. non-lefties), give him a grant!

    Absolutely, perfectly correct!  ;-P

  5. Furthermore, it occurs to me that this guy can draw circles around most artists!!

  7. I probably draw the absolute worse circles.  Always, they come out a bit oblong, and with tails.  I’m hoping that indicates virility.

  8. Hmmm.  Maybe that’s “worst circles”, not “worse circles”.

  9. I would say that it is a Pretty Accurate Circular “O”.

  10. Obviously this guy is in possession of an undiscovered hemisphere of the brain.

  12. He’s probably just as good at “Q”.

  13. Whoo.  I predict a bleak future for blackboard compass manufacturers.

Hmm, I haven’t been in a classroom for quite a while, but aren’t they using whiteboards now?  I thought chalk dust had been harammed.  Bad for the kiddies, and violating HS&E requirements for teacher.

  14. I would’na worry- according to today’s Australian most kids would not even know the definition of a perfect sircle.
Appalling stabdards in Maths and science, let alone an appreciation of mathmatical beauty of the Goldberg variations (as played by Gelen Gould of course!!)
    Our maths teaching below India’s
“the low prestige attached to studying science, reflected in university entrance scores that require a higher mark to study fashion design, sports management or traditional Chinese medicine than a science degree. “

Are science and Maths the new pariahs?

  18. I love the headline of this post.

The arguments over at Youtube are hilarious. Schoolkids insisting their teacher can draw a “more perfect” circle!

  19. And you all thought Peter Garrett was nothing but a mouthy, gangling idiot with a head like a lightbulb, with no discernable talent or ability except for a good line in grand mal siezure impersonations.

Sure proved you wrong (but it probably helps when your head describes a perfect circle, at least in the lateral plane).

  20. Was it just me being a naysayer or is there a slight teardropping at the bottom of the circle?

  21. Shoot, that’s nothing. I can blow square smoke rings. In fact (puff, puff), I’m smoking a cigar (puff, puff, puff), and blowing perfectly square smoke rings right now. I know you all can’t see this, but Terry Lane can confirm it’s true.

  22. Drawing a circle is the definitive proof of infinity. It also describes infinity. Therefore it defines and describes the universe and the nature of existence. And its absence. That this is both obvious and easy is part of the definition.

The OPs required to enter University are not based on how smart the applicant is and how well they will do in a particular course. It’s to filter bodies from more popular courses. I hope that explains the entry requirements for silly crap less prestigious courses being higher than popular ones.
