CALL HANS FREAKIN’ BLIX ALREADY

Australia, a military dictatorship ruled by Howard John-il, has got the bomb! Greenpeace reports:

“We are saying to other countries, ‘You can’t produce nuclear weapons’. Yet now we have evidence that this very type of research may be happening here. I find that very frightening.”

That was Randwick mayor Murray Matson talking today about uranium enrichment research by Silex Systems going on at Sydney’s Lucas Heights nuclear facility.

The ABC was on to this last year. It’s a complete crock, of course.

UPDATE. Greenpeace, relentlessly anti-nuclear, appears to be out of step with a growing number of environmentalists.

  2. I remember the epiphany I had, while planning my trip to Australia a few years ago, that Australia’s population was so low and concentrated in so few cities that I could take out the entire country with one nuclear submarine.

I then cackled like Blofeld.  But after realizing that I had no nuclear submarine at my command, my dreams of rising to the status of super villain turned to ash in my month.

So, I went back to figuring out where to stay on the Great Ocean Road.

  3. It seems to be happening allover!

My personal conspiracy theory is that the Kyoto Protocol will be ultimately be exposed as the greatest hoodwink ever perpetrated on the Green movement.  Let me explain….

We all know that by about 1980, nuclear was dead in the water.  A couple of headline accidents involving 1960’s reactors, and no-one wanted nuclear in their backyard, despite of hundreds of power stations operating perfectly and safely.  In fact, decommissioning continues to this very day.

My conspiracy theory is that “global warming” through CO2 propagation, peak oil, and most other doom and gloom scenarios, have been carefully orchestrated to bring nuclear power back into favour, through the auspices of the “sensible” greens, who can follow the logic, and can see nuclear as the only viable “non-greenhouse” alternative.

This is why normally sensible people such as Tony Blair embrace the greenhouse madness.  It is all a deft political move to ensure that nuclear power regains public approval, and green endorsement.

I can see the Machiavellian beauty of KKKarl Rove’s hand in this!

  5. So, the ABC is concerned that nuclear research in Australia may aid terrorists, while development of the long-yearned-for islamic bomb in Pakistan and Iran will probably be dismissed as exaggeration with an insouciant “what about the lack of WMD in Iraq then, eh,eh,eeeeeeh?”
Greenpeace, a work creation scheme for malcontents with an inability to assimilate into normal society, has sunk so low on the scale of rationality that it is vying for headline space with PETA. They won’t let a few environmentalists get in their way.

  6. Kaboom,

The Rovians know where you live… bwahahahahaha!

Or it could be that the Greens are just THAT much in love with all things French.

You forgot to mention that those “sensible” greens are quite clearly entirely of Master Karl’s making.

  8. Our Defence Department has trouble accounting for $800 million. Let’s give the moonbats a bit of a startup and spread the rumour that the $800 million hole is really a secret nuke program!

  9. I’d sleep a hell of a lot better if we did have nukes.

And if North Korea acquires them with sufficient delivery range to hit us, we’d better goddamned well get them.

  10. Drat, our cunning plan has been identified by Zazoom!

But seriously folks, France supplies 80% of its domestic power needs from nuclear plants, and we have yet to read of any Greenpeace identified problem with French Nuclear waste.

Having personal experience with the Greenies from family involvement, (vis. once recently decedent sibling who I now find was an even darker green than I imagined), you can be rest assured that most, if not all, have no clue of what they spruik.

This is the danger they present - ignorance of the basic laws of physics and chemistry in the hands of the uncomprehending can, and have, cause humanity much grief.

While philosophically one should regard them as useful idiots, that is a misplaced approach, for the damage they inflict in the meantime, while the politicians finally ignite the bulb between their ears, can be quite significant.

  11. Once the world begins to rely primarily on nuclear energy, how long do you suppose it will be before the greenies start wailing about the dead oil-dependent economies of the Middle East, and start agitating to bring back oil technology?

In this context, don’t miss (I did for too long a time) this excellent piece by James Lovelock—inventor of the “Gaia Hypothesis,” and thus a kind of environmental scientist-hero for many people—from the 24 May 2004 issue of the British paper The Independent:  “Nuclear power is the only green solution,” subheaded “We have no time to experiment with visionary energy sources; civilisation is in imminent danger”!
