BIRD VIRUS INCURABLE

Most plastic turkey conspiracists only mention the Great Magical Holy Bird of Bush’s Perpetual Idiocy once, lest repeated mentions tempt opportunistic relatives to have them committed. Even Mark Lawson, inventor of the legend, later revised the turkey down from “plastic” to mere “fake” (still wrong, but allowing at least a little wiggle-room). No such wimpishness from Mike Whitney; he decided the turkey was plastic back in April, and, by gum, ain’t no dang fancy-pants notions of “reality” gonna change his mind:

Rove’s job is to ensure that Bush looks presidential whether waltzing with a plastic turkey in Baghdad or gadding about in a Navy flight-jacket surrounded by Marines.

  1. It shows how easily these things can be imbedded once released - especially with a cynical public.

Had a big debate with a friend the other day about Bush’s memo from god, with him asserting that Abbas’ backdown about it was probably only under pressure - you know those dastardly Americans.

  2. Of course jamesp, they will happily bring up conspiracy theories to back up their claims, having any actual evidence to back it up is unnecessary.

  3. Once upon a Thanksgiving fare,
‘Twas a plastic turkey that wasn’t there.
    It wasn’t there again today.
I think it works for the CIA.

  4. Aaah, Counterpunch. My first exposure to them came from Jorn Barger at my first weblog ever, robotwisdom.com. If you haven’t visited it, you should. It’s an amusing glimpse into the looking-glass. The articles we point and laugh at ("Bush? Hitler? Suuuure!") he links to with, “lucid evocation of administration ethos” or “passionate, vivid takedown of JewRove.” He does link to some fascinating science / gadget / music stuff, though, and it’s fun to speculate on the search strings he uses to get to some of the flickr sets he links.

  5. I think we’re just going to have to face the fact that not even Buffy could kill off the plastic turkey myth.

When it comes to the moonbat left, they really are stuck on stupid.

  6. I remember when Mike Whitney got called up from county cricket against England in ‘81.  Now he’s a political commentator.  Funny how things turn out.

  7. I think he was called up from the Lancashire League, slammer. In any case, like his namesake, our Mike was a medium-pace lefty.

  9. Alexander Cockburn?  He’s still alive and out of an asylum?  He’s a chip off the old Communist bloc.  (Daddy Claude helped found the British Communist Party and ran a Commie propaganda rag, The Week, for many years.) I wonder if Patrick Cockburn, whose byline is on the story, represents a further generation carrying on the great family traditions of treason, malevolence, and apologetics for blood-soaked, totalitarian tyrannies?
