BIG BUG
Spent the weekend driving around northern New South Wales in Volkswagen’s comically-dimensioned Crafter:

Full report soon. VW’s German advertising is way giggly.
Come on, Tim. Just be honest and admit you test-drove a milk truck.

On Thursday afternoon, we had 40 miles per hour sustained, gusts to 65 mph (85 mph a bit further north), 20-30 mph since then, without letup.
I’m quite sick of it, yes.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea; I know people a few miles from here who do. Unfortunately, I’m fairly certain building code height restrictions (or distance from occupied dwellings) preclude it where I live… at least there’s isn’t one anywhere in this neighborhood.
It might be worth looking into, though. The air is never calm here.

Posted by Andrea Harris, Administrator on 2007 04 15 at 04:55 PM • permalinkDon’t come a knockin’ if you see this awkward van a rockin’. (Because that means it’s driving just fine the way it was meant to.) BTW, can’t you lose points off your licence in Oz if you’re caught driving a van the size of a Gitmo cell?
Posted by andycanuck on 2007 04 15 at 05:06 PM • permalinkWell, I can think of one way to keep that van from tipping over…..install a waterbed! Great for roadtrips…...you can sleeep where you want, and carry an emergency supply of water at the same time. ;-P

Posted by Margos Maid on 2007 04 15 at 06:59 PM • permalinkActually, I’m seeing a lot of this sort of van configuration in Los Angeles these days, usually with Dodge or Mercedes logos.
I can see it making sense on tight city streets but it looks lousy for highways, and here in CA it would be allowed on the freeways during wind alerts. We’d have a pile of them below the El Cajon Pass…
Posted by richard mcenroe on 2007 04 15 at 07:13 PM • permalinkOk, Tim.
Where’s the “If this van is a’rockin - don’t come a’knocking” bumper sticker?

Then why not try our range of new neocon car accessories…

In that, I’m sure you were taking care of that one point of yours.
The ads are almost as good as the Trunk Monkey.
