A STATE! THAT'LL FIX EVERYTHING
Reuters reports:
Masked gunmen killed an officer of an elite force loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday in a dawn raid on a Gaza training camp, a day after Abbas called for new elections amid growing tensions with Hamas.
Abu Ubaida, a spokesman for Hamas’s armed wing, denied the group had been involved in the attack, the first of its kind against the U.S.-backed 3,500-strong force, telling Reuters: “This is a wrong and irresponsible accusation."
Via J.F. Beck, who notes: “It would be nice if Reuters elaborated on the ‘backing’ being provided by the U.S. ...” Meanwhile, that election-calling speech from Abbas has got Hamas seething:
"It was a speech of defeat and submission to the Zionist enemy,” senior Hamas lawmaker Mushir al-Masri told a crowd of Hamas supporters at one Gaza rally.
Perhaps this is wrong, terribly terribly wrong to say. But I sort of like the idea of Hamas and the PLO killing each other. Reminds me of how well the Iraq-Iran War seemed to have kept two troublesome countries occupied.
Maybe that’s a possible path to walk. Initiating wars between opposing Muslim factions to keep them busy. When one side is beginning to lose, send money and arms to them. When the other side starts weakening, send money and arms to them.
Please note that I did say “possible”.

They can. It’ll happen if and when the United States unleashes the full fury of our armed forces against both Fatah and HAMAS (and any other organization which has taken part in the murder of United States citizens, like Hezbollah, for example) and completely destroys both organizations, preferably taking no prisoners.
We could probably get the Israelis to give us a hand on this one.

True. Putting all the PLO/HAMAS assholes into the state of death will fix damned near everything that I’m interested in fixing.

Otherwise, I’m with the others: let the Palestinians kill each other.
It’s terrible for their children, but the operative word is “their”, as in “The Palestinians”.
Did Golda Meir realize that the Palestinians love killing more than they love their own children?

All they need do is retreat to pre-1967 borders, let all those millions of Palestinian welfare queens into Israel, chop down the billion dollar protective wall they’ve built, and on and on. Don’t fool yourself Abbababy. Even if they did all that (and that fool Olmert is thinking about it), you’ll still be roasted at the Hamas feast.
The SMH reports that:
“Armed Palestinian groups including Hamas and Fatah have agreed to a ceasefire to end spiralling unrest that claimed at least three lives, the French newsagency AFP reported today.”
If a “ceasefire” with Israel involves only firing rockets, what does a “ceasefire” between Paleolithic groups involve? Ensuring you only shoot adults rather than kiddies?
I amazed at the low body count that results from these big fraternal shoot outs in Gaza and the like. The Israelis seem to kill and maim more with a single missile strike on a single car. Either the Palestinians are ridiculously bad shots, or they are hiding the “truth” about their casualties.
If 3 Palestinian kids throw rocks at an Israeli patrol, 10 of them seem to end up dead. If several thousand Palestinian gunmen go at each other with AK’s, mortars and RPG’s, the total dead is three cats and a budgie (lightly scorched).
Is it possible to “un-exagerate” casualties?

This usually signifies nothing more than that the US is not actively disapproving of the said government or group, who might be doing some good, or at least not too much harm to its people.

This is clearly not acceptable. The US should withdraw it’s occupation forces immediately and hand security over to national organisations. No good can come of foreign troops patrolling the lawful Palestinian territories. Only Pali’s should kill Palis.
What’s that? It’s already happening? Never mind…
