8.55 MILLION VOTES

Results of Iraq’s elections:

An alliance of Shiite Islamist groups won the most votes in Iraq’s election, but the percentage it received - 47.6 per cent - was lower than many expected, according to the final tally released today.

A coalition of the two main Kurdish parties won 25.4 per cent and a bloc led by Interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi got 13.6 per cent.

Overall turnout was 8.55 million votes, which was 58 per cent of those registered to vote. The Shiite United Iraqi Alliance won 4.075 million votes, the Kurds won 2.175 million and Mr Allawi’s list won 1.168 million, according to the tally released by the Electoral Commission.

  3. Well what do the Iraqis know…. According to Michael Moore they were a happy go lucky people flying kites and going to movies and then the evil Bush came along and messed up a perfectly good dictatorship. In fact I was informed by one of his fans that this election was just propaganda.

    Got that? Moore is reality, he speaketh truth.  All those people with dye on their fingers are just make believe, like the torture chambers and childrens prisons and mass graves and chemical labs and military hardware buried in the sand.

    Only a fool or a right wing Nazi would believe the evidence of their own eyes.

  4. This election was a farce!

    There was no provision made to protect the electoral rights of all the recent Syrian, Iranian, Palestinian and Chechen immigrants!

    Where is the UN on all this?

    Of course, there’s also a precedent for what happened to the side that started it…
