BEST OPTION SHUNNED
Albury’s Border Mail - which recently learned us all up about Lizette Salmon, community ambassador for the environment - reports :
Students from the Thurgoona campus of Charles Sturt University will drive a bus more than 7000km next month in an effort to go green.
Strange way to go about it.
The School of Environmental Sciences students will travel across the Nullarbor Plain and back in a 21-seat minibus to attend the national Students of Sustainability conference in Perth from July 9.
Student leader Peter Barrett said the forum was an great opportunity for environmentally conscious young people to network and share ideas.
Ideas like: “Let’s drive across the country in a bus! Yeah!”
The group considered the effects of carbon emissions from a passenger jet when choosing their mode of transport.
“We looked at emissions and efficiency, and the train was actually the best option, but at $900 a ticket, the price was way out of our league,” Mr Barrett said.
When the argument comes down to cost versus carbon, cost always wins.
