BENTLEY BOY BUYS IN

Two further acts sign on to Live Earth:

Keith Urban and Taking Back Sunday are joining the blockbuster line-up of performers who will be playing Live Earth New York at Giants Stadium on 7/7/07, Live Earth organizers announced today ...

“Global warming is something that will ultimately affect all of us on this planet,” said Urban, who is taking time out of his “Love, Pain & the whole crazy World Tour” to appear at Live Earth New York. “And if there is one thing that music can do, it is to bring people together despite their politics or differences.”

When in Sydney, Urban drives a Bentley Continental GTC; check out its EPA greenhouse gas score. Urban drives an identical 12-cylinder unit in Nashville, too. As for Taking Back Sunday:

“We all have our own beliefs, but I really feel that the issue of Global Warming is not a political issue up for debate. It’s strictly a case of our survival in the near future, and it is proven scientific fact,” said Fred Mascherino, lead guitarist for Taking Back Sunday. “The truth is that the more we know the more hope we all have.”

Not much hope for Fred, then.

Mascherino added: “Our actions can directly help to change the course of the climate problem. Making small changes in your life can add up and make a big difference.”

Go tell 24-cylinder Keith about it. Meanwhile, Turkey withdraws from Al Gore’s coalition of the colding:

The Istanbul, Turkey leg of the upcoming Live Earth global spectacular has been cancelled.

Local media suggests the 7 July (07) concert failed to attract sponsorship or promised financial support from the Turkish government.

And why might sponsorship have been so difficult to attract?

Turkish music industry sources say local businesses have shied away from sponsoring the show for fear of criticism from environmental groups who may accuse their factories of helping stoke global warming.

Environmentalists against Gaiapalooza! At least the carbon-generating community is still with Gore:

Via Tim A., who notes that the flight-offering radio station “is in Vermont, too.” An Australian station is promoting the same sort of deal, emails Drew H.:
