CASH FOR COMMENTS update

John Quiggin’s dollar-per-comment tsunami aid drive (mentioned earlier here) has so far raised an insufficient $99. Go comment now! Link now! Do something now!

Meanwhile, in other charity news: will John take the $100 beard challenge? Stay tuned, fuzz fans!

UPDATE. Generous Quiggin readers have boosted his per-comment donation rate to $3.10. That means, if we can hit the 1,000 comment mark, more than $3,000 will have been raised. Comment!

UPDATE II. The per-comment rate is now above $4 – which, multiplied by the current comment count, comes to more than $1,400. Keep commenting, commenters.

    1. When I read the headline, I honestly thought you were talking about the the Kos/Zephyr fiasco. Was that the first thing that popped into someone else’s head?

    1. Why doesn’t John Quiggin stop with all the make-work and just donate the goddamned money to tsunami aid? Why must we act as his minions in order for him to give something?

Recently a yogurt-selling company in the US offered to give so much money to breast cancer research for every foil yogurt container lid that their customers mailed to them. I resented the patronizing attitude involved in that weird quasi promotional/advocacy program. My mom died of breast cancer in 1998. I care about this disease. But to beat this scourge I’ve got to jump through some arbitrary corporate-defined brand-loyalty hoops? Fuck that!

If you want to give money, give the fucking money! Don’t tell me that you’ve got the money but will only donate it if I follow you godamned fucking directions! Asshole!

    1. Cripes, up it to $500.

He won’t do it, of course.

A beard signifies that he is too busy thinking to worry about grooming.

It can be quite scary for a young lady to go to his blog and be confronted by someone who looks like a wolf.

That and a certain young lady doesn’t understand anything he goes on about.

    1. re Brian’s comment. i think quiggan needs the ‘clicks’ on his website. at the moment the only people who go there are his students who are forced to make a showing and ‘arselick’or fail his miserable university subject.

    1. I don’t object to what Quiggin’s doing, because it’s still charitable, like a march-of-dimes sort of thing. The yogurt thing offended me, too. The cost of mailing the bastards in, the people eating that yogurt may as well just send their yogurt money straight to the charity.

Unfortunately, they don’t, and Yoplait did it becacuse it works. The target isn’t charitable people, it’s people who want to feel charitable who will sleep better at night because they ate Yoplait instead of Dannon.

    1. Darlene: “He won’t do it, of course.”

This post has been linked by Instapundit, so that should bring in an extra couple of hundred people leaving comments. Quiggin might be up for that thousand dollars that he pledged to be the maximum.

  1. I want to see Quiggin minus his *ahem* beard.
Does he wear cord pants and a tweed jacket with leather patches at the elbows?

Caricature is sometimes kinder than the reality.
